Rich the Trenton footage is excellent. I remember the grandstands were set up more for shows at the fair rather than racing so there were some blind spots. It was still an awesome place to go and see modifieds run when you were used to the short tracks.

A Gem! Wow! Thanks! That's my latest You-Tube video. It's actually a work in progress. I have more footage from the 1967 infield. I also intend to work on increasing the video quality. You lose so much from the original film to You-Tube.
Look for the changes soon. I also will be making a Langhorne video soon.

You're right, it is a better photo. It was also back when it was still oiled dirt. They attempted to put a back straight into it as you can see in the '71 pic. They sort of tightened up the third turn as you can see.

Looking at the pic it always amazed me that houses were so close to the back straights on some tracks like Trenton and Freeport.

Nowadays Port Royal has that as well.

Thanks Pete! I've been following this thread for awhile! I decided it was finally time to join. Where did you get all those old pictures? They're great! You'd have to teach me how to upload directly to the site. I'm not as computer savvy as you young guys, but I've got tons of old movie film to convert. By the way...on page 29, The ace of Spades Falcon is driven by Bobby Holmberg, not Al DeAngelo that particular day. George Meade aka "Fat Albert"

  25. Well I did, that's when he wasn't quitting cause he got pissed off so often. Talk about hot heads, LOL. He was I believe, the first to run a modified powerglide transmission in a pinto also.

  26. That video is a mix of a few years. Really great to watch.

Never did see the modifieds at Trenton, but I did get to see NASCAR Cup there in '71.

My only trip to Langhorne was for the last modified race they had there. I think that pic of Merv in the #58 coupe, a few posts before mine, was the winner.

But Bodine in the #99 was the show of the day until his rear axle broke and put him in the wall.

Only a few guys ran them, I think Cook did too. They were banned in the same season.

  28. why were they banned? What advantages did they have with them? Was it that huge of a difference?

Mike Ewanitsko one of the most talented drivers, lots of set backs hurt him, but his record is still very impressive!

Mike Stefanik, Steffie is still running on the Mod tour and still winning championships! Watching him and Ted "TC" Christopher battling it out is amazing to watch on a small bull ring like Riverhead. They never seem to disappoint!
