  1. Over on another site photo credit is required. Many of the pics here are from that site.

Apparently some folks were copying them and selling them on eBay. It's a CYA thing.

  2. Good for tracks that stayed damp and tacky all night long.

Yeah, nothing like a heavy track for a great night of racing!

You're absolutely right! That is "Soupy"! I knew I recognized that face and I was sure it wasn't Mousey.

  5. thanks for the correction on the open cockpit mod. I share photos and always say I've gotten them off the internet, never claimed they were mine and would never place my name on the photos. I know people have done it before, Selling them is just plain wrong!

hay bullfather love the picture of nazareth with the #2 Falcon of Randy Bok in the lead. I help work on that car and still hange out with Randy. That was a great time that I will never forget. We knew how to make junk ran and beat the high dollor stuff.

again thanks. have any more of the car. Like at Middletown, Grandview, Mock-a-tec. or Nazareth

Would I be correct in assuming this is the same Nick Piscitelli that owned a sprint car team that raced here in Pa. in the '80s?

The "X" is Freeport star and graduate to the big time at Middletown, Ronnie,"Soupy Sales" Schwendenman. The number 1 Open Cockpit Modified that he built for Freeport in 1966 was the best ever car built for that division. With a roof welded back on in 1968 , that car went on to win many main events as the # 19 driven by Ted Werner. Even though it was a highly modified Slant Six Powered car, and the new 1968 rules raised the C.I. limit to 390, the car could still kick ass. The big benifit to the smaller engines was a 7" maximum width STREET TIRE. NO SLICKS ALLOWED !!!. It was a great equalizer. I will always & forever commend race promoter extroidenair Duke Donaldson for implimenting that rule. All the money in the world could not get the power to the track. The cars turned the same lap times as with 10" slicks within a couple of months after the season began. I ran my car there in 1971 with 7" snow tires on it and it handled well in the turns. When I came back to Weissglass in Staten Island and put my 10" slicks on it ,I was Superman. That's the way it was from somebody that did it!!!! Regards,George LeBlanc.

Does anyone else remember the accident that Newt Palm had at Waterford that delayed his reporting for military duty for several months ? His throttle jammed and he hit the wall right in front of the grand stands near turn 4

Just learned from the Williams Grove Speedway message boars that long time sprint and modified driver, Lou Blaney passed away this week. Lou is the father of NASCAR driver Dave and sprint driver Dale Blaney. RIP Lou.

  26. yeah they mentioned it during the rolex 24, the last two hours are was great racing, never thought I'd see it like that, but they put on one hell of show today.

That's Ken Tremont's 115 Falcon. Probably had Joe Messina driving it. I don't recognize the track. That pic must be '64 or '65.

As a teenager, I remember laying under that car in the garage basement of Tremont's house tightening up the oil pan bolts. This was after he changed from Ford to Chevy power.

I also remember thinking that if the oil pan leaked I'd be toast. Well, it didn't leak and I got a ride to and from Lebanon Valley Speedway with his dedicated crew almost every Saturday night of the racing season.

Tremont was, and still is, one of my racing mentors. I learned a lot hanging around his place. Last time I saw him and Kenny Jr. was at the PRI show in Indy several years ago. Always fun to talk with.

He drove a school bus for years. I had his daughter, Kathy, as one of my students when I taught metal and automotive shop at the local high school. I was gone before Kenny Jr. was in high school, otherwise I would've had him too. A great family with true family values.

About the time that this photo was taken, I "loaned" Nicky Lucas and Bob Sullivan a cherry 34 coach body to use for their next car. If they are done with it, will someone let 'em know i would like it back. Thanks. :) Actually, never expected it back, never was much left after a season at Danbury.
