Tapping a fingernail-what's the best way?

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Groucho, Jan 26, 2009.

  1. Well, today I smashed a finger on each hand, I'm at full-tilt pain. I've never tapped a nail, but it's TIME. I tried burning a small drill bit through the nail, but that hurts like a bitch. And I've tried drilling the nail with a small hobby bit to no avail. Any tips?

i heat up a pin and push it through yah it hurts but it feels pretty good once you get it through

  3. heat a paperclip red hot (lighter will do) and push it through just enough to put a hole in your nail- that will release the fluid.

You take a sewing needle and heat it up red hot. It'll melt the nail and go right in. It's always a little sketchy doing your own surgery so if you have a friend, let them have at it.

My uncle was using the drill bit in a drill one time and the bit hung in the nail and ripped his nail off.

  9. The paper clip always worked for me. Red hot and let it melt a whole, If you have to heat it twice,
clean it with some alcohol or something first, And a grease shop rag to catch the results, should be quite the show if its fresh, PICS !!!

My wife the licenced cosmetologist, says "A hot pin or needle will do the trick, However let your doctor do it and if it gets infected you can blame them.;)"

Put the smallest drill you have in a pin vise, only let about .020 of drill stick out, and twist it thru! It wont hurt nearly as much as when you mashed it!! JC

  14. real men suck it up- like Barnes said in "Platoon"...

Take the pain... TAKE THE PAIN!"

Anyway, been there, done that... mine was a 4lb mallet to the thumb at 20- came up with words that I never knew exsisted in my head.

Any method mentioned will work, but if you use the exacto, make sure to soak it in alcohol or boil it first (whole knife) so you don't risk infection.

    Best of luck, Groucho!

  15. Put your finger in the vice, use a 3/16 drill bit in a hand drill, heat the drill bit red hot and make sure you push hard. Let me know how it works out. Oh yeah, bite an a welding glove at the same time.

  16. My step dad was always doing this...used to heat up a needle and tap it...as he got older he would pull his own teeth and say, "Well I made your mother another pair of earrings today!" He was eccentric but very cool...sure miss him

    OMG LMAO. :D:eek::D

    I feel your pain :(

All the suggestions work. Believe me I know.

My wife really likes this kind of "surgery". I have no problem getting her to inflict pain on me at any hour of the day;). She especially like the geyser effect on a well swollen finger.

I'm sure if that does not work for you, call up your "best friend". He'll likely will not mind experimenting on you...

He might even bring beer and friend to watch it all go down..

HAHA!! sounds like my first girl friend!

  21. shock it. Ice water to hot water, Back and forth till it starts to ease up.

  22. A pin leaves too small of a hole and clotts up. A paper clip and an alcohol base fuel candle is what the doctor used in the ER. After I saw that i cant tell you how many nails I tapped. I forget the greek work Exasperated no thats not it .
    there was no pushing involved.

I took a small dia. sewing needle, dipped it in alcohol, and pushed it in under the finger nail from the front. I was in so much pain that little bit of pain didn't matter.

  24. The nail pretty much melts as the hot pin or paperclip touches it.

Instant relief though. I think I had my first one done at the doctor when I was 7 or 8. Slammed my finger in the car door.
