  2. A simple way to dress up the 455 Olds was to construct a home made Stanless Steel design with 2" primarys and removable Samson Baffles. Super light weight... never have to paint or coat !!!

    This is what a Stock 455 Olds sounds like with more restrictive baffles in it than the Samsons!

    I bought a hobby stick welder and taught myself how to weld - flanges came from Speedway Motors. I made up a sample piece by putting together a bunch of pipes I had laying around - took it to a guy I heard was very good if pipe bending - told I wanted 4 pieces exactly the same. Then I had to cut them down - get the correct angles then weld them up, then did it all over again on the other side ( thats the white set). The other set is a cut up and re-welded set of T Bucket roaster pipes, and the side pipes I went back to the pipe bender again, hangers I made attach to the frame - used motorcycle muffler clamps.

    Nice Whitey! I have been thinking about redoing the exhaust on my roadster and those are pretty tasty. Love the Carolina Creeper under the Truck.

    Ok...Wait just a pea-pickin' minute!! I just counted the pipes on Tommy Ivo's car and the ones up the middle don't make a lick of sense to me. Can someone please enlighten me?

    It's the very exotic and elusive V7.5 Nailhead, not many people have heard of them, let alone seen one...and 4 in one place I think this has to be a new record, last I heard there were only 4 of the originals left!

    Ah. That explains it. I'd always heard that they made a few of those. The blocks were billet unobtainium and they had Henway rods.

    See I'm a semi responsible hotrodder...when the truck was ******* colant all over the street, I decided this was probabally better than letting it puddle up.

    I look out for my pets and other peoples animals....People, ahhhh....not so much.

    I know, even goes as far as mopping the garage once a month and I am still nervous about the little guys. The roadster like to spit a bit of coolant, Oil, & and Gear lube from under it's belly. I am set to fix that in the future when I paint the engine.

    how are cones made, a search online just gets you a bunch of pot heads rolling another kind of cone, are cones spun?, how did ford make there tapered drive shafts?

    I don't know the official answer, but couldn't you just start with tubing and cut a pie section out, pinch it together and weld it?

    Cones can be made on a sliproll. You start in the center, have one side of the roller tighter than the other and start rolling back and forth until they're what you want, loosening or tightening to get the desired shape. One of the three rollers comes loose at one end and that's the one you use. Once done you remove the metal from that roll, cut the seam as needed and weld and metal finish. Or just use some old Ford driveshaft tubes...

    '35-'36 Torque tubes were the original cone exhaust because of their constant taper and because of the thin walled tube used. Model A Torque tubes are similar but a heavy and thick walled tube. That's how I plan to run my coupe's exhaust. I am not sure how they do it now.

    The exhaust under my '32. Nothing fancy but they're clean and sound good. Welded them up from u-bends and straight pipe.

    I asked Tommy about that years ago. He said they ran out of room for all the pipes so cylinders 1 & 3 on both left side motors were Siamese'd together, hence 14 pipes in the middle. I asked him if it hurt power and he said "Have you ever seen that beast run?"

    Sanderson blockhuggers connected to 2.5" straight pipes.....nothing overly creative, but it sounds good.

  29. Alrightey then.....Since we are all here looking at headers, look at my avitar, and look at my personal space to see what the car USED to look like, and give me opinions on white headers.
    The car was built in the early '70's as a scratch built altered, and I'm making a hot rod out of it. I remember selling white header paint in my parts house by the case, and if you were in, you had white headers. I plan to keep the paint job, and do the ch***is and running gear, and interior in red. I'm trying to stay close to the '70's heritage. What do you guys think? White headers? I plan to run the long 26" turn outs with internal mufflers, having heard a big block set up that way. uuuuummmmm good!! Thanks, Mike
