More on AWB Mopars and "Wheel Stands"

    The pictures are from 1967....

Pictured below is a "typical" launch wheel stand of an Altered Wheel Base Mopar (my car) BEFORE an extreme engine setback and straight axle installation....and then a picture of the same car (my car) after my 26" engine setback and straight axle installation.....quite a difference...huh ?

A lot of individual pictures of these 2 cars are in existence......

BUT HOW MANY PICTURES HAVE YOU EVER SEEN OF THESE 2 CARS SIDE-BY-SIDE.

Sox & Martin & Dick Landy
    - 1968 Chrysler Backed Drag Race Cars.

THESE ARE NOT CLONES...THE ARE THE REAL THING...SIDE BY SIDE.....

And I have the picture (which was taken just a couple of years ago)and am glad to share it.....

    Hi Jody,

I visit that site all the time. It has great pics on it. I am always looking for new stuff like the pics of "Silencer", I have not seen that before. Do you know of any other pics? How about anything on the Robie Ford Fairlane?

    Thanks,
    Mike Cannon

Joel, your pic of the "Wildcatter" Plymouth in post # 777 eventually became the AWBconverted "W.V.A. Hemi-Charger", yes?

Very common back then to cut the roof metal out and replace it with sheet of aluminum....I did it to mine.

Good stuff Wally. One question, where are those Z11's now? not the cars, just the engines. We'd all like to know.

    Good question.
My Z-11 stuff went to Doug Hughes in Az. (what was left of it.)
Tom Jacobson owns more Real Z-11 stuff (and 409), than anyone I know. He likes collecting it.
(Tom's '62 ProMod car is awesome.)

Theobald ( Bless his soul),and I grew up,raced in the same area of NY. ( I miss Carl..)

Mike Gaines and Joel N, Good to have you here! I've got to comment on the comments about Greer's "Tension". The car did have the entire roof structure cut out, and it DID also have the roof skin replaced with thin aluminum sheet. Greer told me that the car eventually wieghed 1700lbs in it's lightest ready-to-run condition. Darn near cut the car's original wieght IN HALF!!!!!!

Greer's car is the inspiration for the Dodge that I'm currently working on at: www.primerking.com

The Wildcatter and the WV Hemi-Charger are 2 different cars....Wildcatter was a Plymouth and WV Hemi-Charger was a Dodge. They both had rear wheels moved forward and the WVHC was probably more hacked up as I heard a story about seeing it in the garage broken into where a subframe had failed. I heard it was then junked. I have no idea what happened to the WC as it was taken back by the dealership and sold. These cars were local for me and the WC's original owner is still around but hard to talk to.

    Wally Bell,
Great pictures. I'd like to know a bit more about your cars from this period. You bought Hubert Platt's Z11 Impala -- how long did you race it? Best ETs? Did that engine go into the Chevelle? It's interesting to see a couple of Z11 motors still racing into 1966. What did you do for parts? I just got an old magazine with a feature on Malcolm Durham's Z11 Chevelle. Was yours similar-- engine setback, etc.? ETs on the Chevelle? When did the Comet enter the picture? Best times for it?
    Thanks.

I am looking for photos of this car and any of the Strip Teaser serices of cars that ran out of Ellijay, GA back in the sixties. I already know of those on the Double H Dragstrip website.

    Thanks

A couple shots of the Dodge Boys cars. Anybody have any info on these cars? Especially the Polara. Where are either of them now?

A shot of the /FX car taken during the trip to England. Thought I had read somewhere that this car was wrecked?

  27. I remember Hubert Platt's trademark move was the big dry hop while holding his door open. Which makes this "oops, forgot to hook up the wheelie bars" pic even more dramatic.

  28. The AFX car is owned now by HAMB member Mike Guffey. The max wedge car I've been told is owned by Jim Kramer. The third '64 Strickler SS Hemi car is now owned by Frank Lupo of Dynamic Transmissions. The AFX car was not wrecked. It was sold to George Whalen who ran the car as the "Rebel" in '65.

Anyone know what Jenkins car had that long ladder bar type thing that ran forward next to the drive shift? Like a single torsion arm or something ?
