R&C Rod Test Article or Magazine Wanted

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Centurion9, Jan 28, 2009.

  1. I'm after one of just a few of the Rod Tests that Rod & Custom ran in the early '60's. I'd like to get a scan of the one on what I believe is a '49 or '50 Chevy Tudor Coupe. Please let me know if you have the magazine or good scans available. Thanks Guys....Centurion9

I have every issue of Rod & Custom through 1970 and can scan it if you tell me which issue (month/year) you want.

..I've got that one; it's Johnny Wahlgren's 50 Chevy tudor. I've always loved that car. I'll have to see if I can dig it up for you. The lead photo shows the car driving thru some water and the water is splashing out both sides. Real cool photo.

  4. That's the one Rusty! I've always wondered exactly what that body style is called "officially"...I've always just called it a Tudor, but others call it a Coupe....The car is perfection to me....Thanks, hope you can dig it up....Centurion9

  5. There's a difference in a coupe and a tudor. The 49-52 Chevy coupe has a short quarter window, the Styline 2-door sedan has a long quarter window (about the same length as the 2-door Fleetline quarter window).

  6. Is a test article a testicle? :D

    Sorry....

  8. Thanks Bigtime for the difference between the Tudor and the Coupe...I wish I had a nickle for every time I've seen them mixed up. I love the Tudor Body and don't see many of them around. Thanks for restoring (partially) my sanity......C9

C9,..I found that issue; June 62 issue with Roth's Rotar on the cover.I'll try to scan the article on here. If you PM me an address, I can copy the article and send it to you also.
The car was a tudor sedan, not the club/business coupe.Wonder what ever became of this car as it was very nice.

Thanks for scanning the article, Rusty1. That was always one of my favorites also. I think they may have re-printed that in a more recent R&C in the "little pages" section. I'll start looking through my collection but that never ends well. I get sidetracked too easily in the old mags and forget what I started looking for!

Got lucky and found it in the March 1998 issue. Should be easier to obtain than the original 1962 article for anyone so inclined.

270283,...I do remember seeing that reprint not too long ago, now that you mention it. I'd love to see a color photo of that car as it was in the rod test..(Seirra Gold).
You'd think a car of that caliber would still exist somewhere unless it was involved in an accident or such.
I don't remember ever seeing it in any show coverage during that time either.
...what's on the March 98 cover?

The cover blurb for March 98 was "Fun Trucking". There was a picture of a 41 Ford pickup and a 40 Ford delivery. Your original article had more details and pictures than the reprint but it was good nonetheless. I too would like to see the car in color. Maybe someone on the HAMB could ask Pat Ganahl. I'm sure he would know the history of the car.
