Ok guys give me your thoughts on this.I am a member of our local Elks lodge here in the Clear Lake area.We were sitting around last night shooting the crap about the upcoming functions for this year and i had a brain storm.Has you all know the Elks do some really great things for are past and present veterans and not to mention youth activities and charities. So what would you guys think about having a reliabilty /cruise day/car show that we could bring the kids and freinds to.I was thinking we could break out the crawfish pots and maybe put out a few burgers and hot dogs. There is a very nice inground swimming pool out back and an area were we can pitch a few horse shoes.Ofcoarse we will also include any of our scooter riding buddies also.If there is enough intrest in this i would have no problem getting the lodge to back me up on this. There would be a minimal gate charge to cover in there for the vets.THIS IS NOT AND WOULD NOT BE A FOR PROFIT DEAL!!!!. Just a bunch of folks coming together for a good time and a darn good cause.I have never organized an eveny such has this so any help would be great. Hit it me back with your thoughts and let's see where this could go!!
Count me in, be good to meet some of the fellow area HAMB-ers as well as help out for a good cause! Plus, could'nt hurt to get one of the ol' buckets out and stretch her legs. ~MyDeSoto~
Mke sure we don't do it on Feb 28, Burnout weekend. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?p=3546218#post3546218
Lets see if everyone thinks late may would be good. The crawfish a larger and cheaper. And the pool would be warm for the kids or who ever might want to jump in and cool off.NOT YOUR STANDARD HOT ROD ORDEAL.But again could be a lot of fun!!
Not to break in on anything, but I a little radio show and have been looking to get the station involved in a car meet/show that would benefit a good cause... I'm down on a personal level... and if this particular meet is best left small and non-commercial, I get it. I'm still down...but in case someone wants to get together and put on a larger show in the future, you'll know where to find me...
Guys i would look like shit missing an event i helped plan, seeing has how i will be at the Hoedown and the Burnout.Again let's here a little feedback for planning the event around the end of may.If any body has any objection please let me know
Of coarse i will need to double check with the lodge, but what do you guy's think about the last weekend of May
I'm in but...........as usual, I'm confused. I understand the not for profit part but shouldn't there be admission fees to support somebody, be it the Elks, kids, Galveston/Clear Lake people WHO STILL NEED HELP, or some sort of orginization that can can help someone as opposed to just a bunch of dudes eating barbeque, throwing horseshoes, and looking at cars. I'll be the first one to tell you that I'm totally down with the barbeque, horseshoes, cars thing but if you want to involve the Elks Club, personally, I think that you should pick some sort of charity that's close to the hearts of either the local Elks Club or some sort of Clear Lake charity. Give the proceeds to whatever recipient that you decide on. Promote it with flyers, radio, etc... I live up near Spring so driving to Clear Lake just to hang out is a so-so. Driving down to Clear Lake to help a "cause" while getting to hang out at the same time somehow appeals to much more. Just saying. Mark
keep me posted as far as the date and I will try to make it out there from shreveport... my gal lives outside of houston in college station so it might be a great way for me to come out and take her & her son... keep me posted as far as the date...
Believe me, Brian helps a lot of folks out, he's one of the most generous people I've ever met. We can keep this casual, and pass the hat for any contributions that will help the causes the Elks support. No need for "official" stuff, permits, all that crap. Let's hang out and have fun, what's wrong with that? Any donation you care to make to the Elks will be greatly appreciated.
Hell yeah. I've been mulling putting together another run for a few weeks now but just haven't had time to get out and find a route. Let's do it.
Hey. I said I was confused! Haha. I have no doubt about Brian. Thanks for the thought of permits. Di'nt think of that. Still think the Elks at the least should get something. Donation, plaque, art, picture, whatever. I'm in.
