Here's the only picture of one of my great uncle Don MacLaren's race cars I seem to have on my computer. As stated in one of my previous posts, it bears the name of his welding shop, 5D's Welding, where my father worked with him for a while in the late 70's-early 80's. Hopefully I'll find more when I go visit my folks on Sunday and get to dig through their photographs.[/QUOTE]

    Thanks for posting.

My grandpa used to race oval tracks in the Missouri-Kansas-Oklahoma-Arkansas area. He also raced the MoKan Speedway around the same time. I can remember growing up almost every weekend at a different track or at the strip with him and my dad. I would give anything to be able to go back to my childhood and hang out with gramps.

Kenny Weld and Kenny Brightbill. Back in the day that was old technology vs. new technology.

The Flying 11 in the #1725 photo with the #300 is an earlier version of the car. It is a 36 Chev. instead of the more recognised 37 Chev. shown in the #1726 photo. My understanding is the 36 was owned by Ray.

Old tech vs. new tech and low buck vs. high buck. I'm sure some spent more than Weld cause he could build 'bout anything, but, win per dollar spent, I'd guess Brightbill would win that battle. If you look closely at the pic, Brightbill's car is built to load the left rear, heck big Kenny is even sittin' over the left rear. Kenny Weld was a great inovater in sprint, mods, anything he did.

This has to be the sharpest Super Modified EVER! Jim Shampine, notice where the engine sits behind him.
