I learned a little more about the history of my 32 5W and thought you fellas might enjoy the story. In the early 70s a young Michigan hot rodder was in the Air Force and managed to get stationed at a base in northern Michigan not too far from his home town. In his free time he searched the back roads and junk yards for his dream car .... a 32 5W coupe. His search finally paid off as he found a nice solid 5W in a near by junk yard. The only problem was the guy wouldn't sell it. He keep saying he was going to go dirt track racing with it. After repeated failed attempts he resourceful young hot rodder made one last desperate attempt to get the 32. Late one night he snuck into the junk yard a stole the doors off the coupe:eek: A month or so later he stopped back at the yard asked the owner if the 32 was still there and had he changed his mind about selling it. The old guy said hell I might as well sell it since some son a****** stole the doors off it!!
As is often the case the hot rod project never got finished and a few years ago it was "discovered" in a storage shed complete with an old mattress:D And yes the doors were with it!

It would always bother me that the car was swindled by a thieving scumbag. Just my opinion. Of course, it could be a bogus story, and that's what I would try to believe.

I'm with F&J - cheater's don't really win in the end, and chuckling about stealing something from somebody so you can scam him out of the rest is not what most of us are all about. I see stuff all the time that I'd like - and if the owner says NFS, then I pester him/her on a regular basis, but no GOOD hot rodder (or person) would ever think that the ends justifies the means when theft of someone else's property is involved. Thinking that this is a neat way to acquire parts or cars is a good indicator of an intellect whose IQ is barely above room temperature.

This is not what our hobby/avocation is all about - read some of the threads in here from HAMBers that have had stuff stolen from them, then call them up and chuckle about it - see how THEIR sense of humor is doing.

Looks like it must have been washed right before it was discovered.

    NOPE , I 4 one HATE that Story !!!
As much as I would LOVE to have a `32 5Winder in my garage , I would rather die semiyoung than get cought building one with stolen parts !!!
    No WAY !!
Youthfull dumbness as an excuse will not make this right .
In the future , This could be the Story about my car ( or yours ) , and how a scammer convinced me ( or you ) to sell cheap because vital parts was missing ........

    Fuel Pump ... : Not Cool .

BTW .. Seems like an Excellent 5W body ..

Yeah, I'm with the guys that hate that story. If it were my car, that would bother me every time I opened or closed one of those stolen doors. For me, the whole idea of owning an "original Henry Ford Steel Car" is because of it's history. I don't like the "history" of that car.

  12. Not a good story dude, Sure its got a flair for drama, but it was conned out of someone.
    Built with stolen parts,
Why would you think anyone here would enjoy a fellow car enthusiest being ripped off?

  13. No matter what he was or was not going to do w/it,the car including the doors belonged to him.
Do I have to start worrying that someone will come into my yard to steal the doors off of my 54?
You think its awsome? Im glad that you do not live in my neighborhood.
I feel kinda bad for anyone who thinks it OK to steal.

In no way do I condone what happened to your car in the past. Having said that , you weren't involved in the act and were just relating a story. I've often wondered about the history of my cars. If they could only talk, the stories they could tell. I enjoy studying my families history back through history, wish there was a way to do that to a car.

    JEEEEEZUUUUS !!!

Some of you guys are Wond up a Lil tight !!

The Man said it was some History he learned about the car... Not how he accuired it.

I can just about tell all you Dudley Do Rites that unless you went to your Local STREET ROD Shop ( yea i said it .. Streetrod) and purchased EVERY Damn part for your car Brand New & had Someone build it JUST for you , And i bet there are alot of you on here that did.

Some part or the whole car has more than likely been involved in SOME sorta illegal something.

Its just a story from long ago, Yeah maybe it*****s that the guy didnt get to go DIRT TRACK RACING in the '32.

But is the guys had a post about this*****ed up Dirt Track car that was beyond repair you would all be crying about what a shame it was to ruin a '32 Ford.

I swear the more i look on here the more i see people whine about some stupid*****.

This story gives us Air Force guys a bad name... but when I was young dumb and full of scrum I may have done the same exact thing.***** I'd have done worse. I agree w/ Desoto but now things got all out of whack. I think the only way to rectify this is to go mentor a troubled youth using this project as a guide. Otherwise bad karma will follow your ride forever dude. Believe.

NO,NO NO, he should feel really bad about the history of the car! and sell it to me,so you won't feel to bad about it. let me worry about it's almost 40 year old past. well at least trade off the doors , because they are the stolen parts. and if you do decide to let me buy it,i'll take the valve covers and intake also. heck i'll even clear out that old mattress. hey i'm here for ya !!!!

Someone stole the driver's door off of my '70 Challenger back in the mid 80's. The left a thank you note and a $20 bill on my front door, but they never came back to buy the car. Guess it wasn't the same guy. ;)

  23. I would feel no guilt in somethign that happened decades ago. Obviously was not a big deal to the junkyard guy since he sold it anyway!

In the 50s there were a set of Ardun heads in this area. Story goes that they were stolen neverl to be seen again. The owner has recently died with no heirs, and yes I am always looking for those heads.

Jeez, guys, the owner was just relating some of the HISTORY of his car! Did he steal the doors? No.

Let's say the car was involved in a murder years ago, by a previous owner. Would that prevent any of you from owning this car? I'd bet not.

So buying stolen goods is OK by you ?
Some1s shady doings makes it OK to sell / 4others to buy the stuff he/her stole from you&your family ?? ..

I dont buy stolen stuff .. I dont steal ... I find this post soo toatly OT / irritating / offencive that I wish it could just plain vanish into thin air ...

Off to a party ( friend turning 50 ) , Sure hope this thread is gone when I log in on Sunday )

buying something hot off the truck, no i wouldnt. but a 32 5 window that has some odd travels in its past, ya, id buy it in a heartbeat. i didnt steal the doors, and neither did the fella who posted this thread

  27. No but this one is a little different. he is relating a STORY. How to tell if it is even true, just a wild west tale and adds a little color. fuel pump is a straight shooter far removed from the alledged tale. I am sure if he was told when he bought it "here ya go, buy my 32 that I ripped off some old codger" he would have done otherwise.

i think you should crush it cause it has stolen doors from thirty years ago. haveing your stuff stolen*****s, but people been stealing stuff for thousands of years, and our current goverment steals are money and freedom through through taxs and laws and where all helping steal oil from foriegn nations, if you dont like do somethin dont complain about somethin someone else did. i find the story boring and thats it

  29. hell ain't nobody here can swear that nothing hasn't been gotten "the wrong way" for these old cars....i sure as hell didn't ask where the new nose came from for Lil Beast when i bought it from that german guy in germany...odd that all he had was a topolino grille/nose????hey i know, someone stole the rest of the car and left the grille...so he figured it would be better just to sell it then look for a topolino needing a nose to own and stick his grille on...

cool story as far as i'm concerned..true story? or just a very interesting tale??who knows...but i think Ryan needs to have a Hamb Decafe Coffee Sale.......
don't think there's any Hamber's here that would advocate stealing parts........besides, how many Hamb car owners here are without****les when they started building their projects????you guys all building stolen rides???constantly seeing threads on how to get paper for my________...did ya buy it from a stolen car ring ??no??then where's the paper work....

    liten the***** up:eek:

  30. you got a cool project with a mildly interesting story to go with it.
now paint it flat black with radials and red wheels, have some beers then race it on the street. then everyone on here will be pissed :p
