Today I heard a story about a model A coupe on the second floor of a barn. Legend has it the man bought the car new in the show room in 1932, drove it home to his half finished barn and put it on the second floor. He then built the rest of the barn up around it with a big window so you can see the car from the road. Supposedly after the man died his wife said that anyone passing by that saw the car could have it if they could get it out without damaging the barn.
Now whenever i go through Redding CT you can believe i will be looking in very barn window for that coupe.

Are there any other cool legends out there?

  8. Anyone from Saskatoon Saskatchewan on here looking at this thread?? The Cadillac in the basement was true. It's too bad thought that the guy who ended up with it didn't appreciate it for what it was and flipped it for a big buck.

The car in question was a 59 Eldorado ragtop, red with a white top. The guy who got it paid the doctor's widow what he paid for it new in 59, plus paid to knock out the wall where the garage door was, replace it and relandscape. He turned down 80 large for it not long after he got it, and has since sold it for what I assume was considerably more than that. I just hope all he did with it was redo the mechanicals, because those things were only original once.

I don't know if its a legend or not...I guess the last part could be...

Back around 1975 or 76 I saw a black 32 4dr sedan in excellent condition, being chauffeur driven with an old lady in the back. Saw it twice that summer in a small town outside St Johns where I had my first summer job.
The Manager at the dealership where I was washing cars every Saturday said "thats old lady so and so... Her and her late Husband bought that car new and have used it ever since. Always with a driver."

Talking to a fella from out that way just a few months ago when I bought some 16" Ford rims from him.
He remembered the car well and says the old lady died years ago, but the car is still in the town...walled behind a false wall in her relatives garage...with her gloves crossed and laying on the back seat!
The car is most definately NOT for sale at any price.

I KNOW the car existed so I have no reason to doubt his story. Hopefully the intention is to have it out again some time in the future.
Perhaps the relatives whos lives were directly touched by the original owners will have to pass on first though...

Where I used to live in northeastern Oklahoma the legend was about an old "California Hot Rod" that drove through town only once then disappeared in the area and was never seen again. I thought that the guy that kept going around town telling the story was a few bricks short of a load and never took him seriously.
Another guy in town did believe him and hired a private investigator to find the car. It was found after about a two week search, was purchased and has been featured in a couple of magazines as well as in a book named "The Cobra in a barn".
What was it you ask, how about a '34 3-window, sporting a nailhead with 6-2's, old peeling chrome covering most of the suspension and an old widow as an owner. Truly was a Cali built car that had been driven into the barn and then forgotten. The last I knew the car was in the Dallas area and still in patina. Boy did I feel stupid.

The other rumor in that area of Oklahoma was about a '54 vette in a guy's living room. That one is also true, I've seen it with my own 20/20's. Body shop owner had the thing smack in the middle of his living room.

I found a hook on my car door one morning after coming home from the submarine races.

Hiking in Red Rocks Park outside Denver, I found a hatchet that was autographed by the "Hatchet Lady". Never could find someone to verify the signature.

There's always that one that never seems to die about the traincar full of 32's falling through the ice of one of the great lakes ... or something or other... the details always change but someone always hears about it and you cant help but wonder.
Ice cold fresh water might not be as destructive as one might think considering the condition of that Panzer they pulled out of some pond in Eastern Europe not too long ago.

  23. There was a '40 Ford coupe around here that was a show car back in the 60's that the owner built a giant crate around after he got sick of people asking to see it. I thought it was a b.s. story, but the guy's business started failing recently and the car was auctioned off for something like $7500. Unreal.

I am still looking for the collection of 50-60's gassers in my area.
I heard from one old timer...preserved...just stashed away.

  26. Yeah, that's probably the least easy thing ever, unless you meant to type $10,000.

Maybe with some fava beans and a nice Chianti?

A fella near here was rumored to have a nice Golden Hawk and an Avanti in his basement...I asked him about it-He laughed and invited me up to see them.
    Yep,they're there!
Wish they were in my basement!

the guy who use to live across the street told us about a car thats buried under our garage but he didnt remember what kind of car it was.

the people that use to live here aparently had a habbit of digging holes and burying things that they couldnt sell. if it sat for sale for to long of a period of time the owner would just use his backhoe dig a hole and burry it so that he wouldnt have to look at it. one day about 6 months after we movied here. my mom and i were digging in an area of the yard and i happened to come across a what looked like metal so i started to dig with my hand and had uncovered a boat windsheild. so i went and got my dad and we started to seriously dig and well we found a small boat burried in the yard while we were doing that the neighbor across the street has seen what we were doing so he came over to talk to us and had told us what the previous owners of our house were like and the things that they did. he said sense we had found the boat he would tell us the other things we were bound to find if we kept digging. over the years we have dug up everything he told us about and more. so im positive that there is a car burried under my garage but my parents wont let me dig it up.

some of the stuff that has been found in my yard burried are, the boat, two boat trailers, two motorcycles and a motorcycle frame, countless bycicles,a roller rocker that looks to be from an old mopar engine, a chimny, sliding glass doors, countless bricks and other misc things so im pretty sure there is a car burried i just need a way to find out what it is with out disturbing the garage.
