Like a hawk i watch the progress of this car! Look's great..Can't wait to see it all finished up next to the Olds..
Nice setup, should rock. You've been racing at GLD off/on for years right, don't you have a '56 Chevy too?
Yup, that's me, John. Disease and it is full blown and terminal. Also have a 68 Nova that has run at GLD for FORTY years and a 65 Coronet that runs 10's. Like a stated, I have the disease and it is BAAAD. Looks like your Merc is coming right along.
there were three cars used to make the movie, so which one do we mimic?. We decided to go with an auto for cost and simplicity. Granted, the four speed would have been cool, but after discovering the Matador squad cars in our local salvage yards had GM 427 mystery motors and not hemis, we acknowledged we couldn't be 100% correct anyway.
Just another update. We are making progress, but it doesn't look like much. The body mounts are fabbed, the steering was installed, the starter is installed (that was a full day of grinding), the trunk floor was replaced, the tranmission tunnel was built and an integral blow shield incorporated. It will start moving faster now. Seats will probably be next. Most likely going with Speedway's hotrod seats. Slicks will be ordered tomorrow. M&H Racemasters, of course. Going with some 11.5x31's. We are hard at it!
lookin good. i think this thing would be******in on the street. i would love to see the look on the kids face when you rumble up next to his civic at the red light,......
It'll be like the terrible two-some in your garage, a Christmas tree in the middle and you'll be all set. That's a nice pair of cars you got.
super cool! a willys would be my #1 car I would like to have. keep us updated! thanks for the pics!!!
see, i know the secret to street racing, wanna hear it? blow it up with a 4 barrel? re build it with dual quads blow it up then? inject it. you gotta build it faster -how far? till it's an automatic, then its boring.
we are mired in that point where things are happening, but progress in not noteable, nor noticeable. we pulled out the package tray and braces and are moving them rearward about 6.5". We are fitting the new seats and revamping the mounting brackets. the steering column is in and shafts are built and mounted. All body mounts (13 in total) are fabbed up and installed, rollcage is on deck.
Real Nice Bob.....Really nice ! Better forget everything concentrate on making that thing FAST ! ! You will need all the help you can get, if you decide to bring it out to the { OHIO } gasser reunion this summer ! ! ! be a few a them layin for ya !
oh my, race an all steel car??? heaven forbid...I thought steel cars were for shows and only glass cars were raced!!!! I was running the ET estimator the other night. Based on the horsepower Kilpatrick says it will make and weight we figure it will finish up at...let me just say I will be asked to leave if I stay in it to the end.
Progress Report: The pedals are in, as is the master cylinder. The Olds rear end housing is mounted and we will have that complete in two days. The package tray was cut down ten inches to allow for the seats to be placed more rearward in the cabin, and the seats were test fit. We have fitted the nose and fenders. The aluminum radiator we ordered right out of the catalog is going to work perfectly, except the bottom hose bung will have to be altered to a 30 degree angle so the hose will clear the oil filter. We have cut the cowl vent from the hood and are making modifications for it to clear the scoop/carbs. Yes, it seems like we are creeping along, but it all takes time! We are struggling with the configuration of the roll cage. The roof on these coupes is so small, there needs to be complex angles to allow for driver comfort and safety. But we will prevail!!!! Our target is the second weekend in June and it appears that is still attainable. We have come a long ways in five months and will see things starting to come together in a hurry.
or any dragstrip look good, I'm going to start campaigning Bob to bring it to the HAMB Drags in August.
Man that Willies does look like it is beggin for a Hemi. Would love to be there when you fire it up for the first time.
