Hi I think if I had the car I would make it close to the OEM as I could...As far as wood there is plenty in the lumber yards along with many carpenters.....I don't see many 28-32 Pontiacs/Chevrolets at the shows most are Fords....If you lose interest in the car let me know what you want for it!....Miller

  3. I have one in the Shop that I work Part time in, a 31 Pontiac Coupe with
a 455 Pontiac 4 Speed still under Construction
Thursday I will take some Pictures of it & Post

  4. I've posted this before so hope no one's too tired of seeing it but here's the one I built. I'm running a 283 from a 57 chev in it. Didn't have it at the time I was building the car but have since bought an Oakland flathead V8. May use it in my next 31 Pontiac project.

    That Poncho looks great!

I'd go with a blown straight eight just to keep it in the family..

No. Give it a ford style transverse leaf and I beam and you lose the "pontiac" about it. You chop and channel it ala Pete Flaven's '30 Chevy Coupe. Lowers the profile of the rod but the ch***is stays as is. Or use a dropped tube axle w/ the stock parallel springs. Should keep the parallel spring front end at all costs or it's just another not-a-ford rod.;)

Starting in 1926, Fords use less wood than do most other makes which is why Model "A"s are popular 'cause you don't have wood structure in the doors like Chevys, etc.

Yessir, what he said. Axle on top of the springs, or a dropped axle from Speedway (or wherever), and be happy. It's just enough alike to be different, and those fender lights are KILLER. I can't really believe you have to ask if it's do-able;).

Kerrys car looks great & proves the 68 year old parallel front springs work good.
If I could find a Pontiac like that I'd be building me a 1931 GTO.
I have Hemi's, but this one would be All PONTIAC!!

in my neighborhood, if the wood is still good, that car would bring the better part of $10k just as it sits. Poncho boys would be all over that little tin indian

Wow Kerry, you've got a rad Poncho. Axle over springs, nice. Seems to be a couple different ways around not adding a model a crossmember and Ford style front end...

We are bringing the car home this weekend. Probably Sunday. Hope to post some new photos in a few days. The car will be for sale. I think I will stick with Model A's which is my favorite.

My own is a CHevy 5W but pretty similar to the Pontiac.

    Here is how it started...

and here is how it sits with a '32 Ford frame under it from Ionia.

my pal did a '33 pontiac with a 3.8 v-6 and 350 turbo. made a neat ride and was a real attention getter. i say...go for it!

  25. Id love to have an early Pontiac Coupe.......I figured Id never find one, thats why Im searching for an "A".....while building the "T" and the 47 Dodge....Man an early 389/421 with a 6x2 or M/T cross ram, a 4 gear, 3" outta the top, ditch the fenders, and back it up with a 57-64 Pontiac rear....throw on some steelies(maybe chrome reverse wheels), and paint it 70 Orbit Orange...that would be my vote!

The more I look at this car I realize that I wouldn't rod it. For a Pontiac guy it would be great to have in any condition, but this isn't your forever popular model A or T which are much more available now than an early Pontiac. This car seems too complete and untouched not to mention solid(at least in the pics) over the years and should be preserved not rodded. Probably not a popular thought on this board, but not every car needs to be a hotrod. At least not this one anyway IMO.

Maybe if a guy had just found a body and missing parts here and there one could make a rod. Does this car still have the interior, original drivetrain still?

That pontiac has really nice lines on the body and the fenders. I'd build that in a second.
