Is a 'Bastard' Deuce Better than no Deuce?

Having looked off and on for a complete rear panel for my '32 Ford Tudor Sedan without much success (too damaged, too incomplete, or too far away), I have lately been eyeing an unblemished rear body panel on a '32 or '33 Plymouth Sedan. The abandoned Plymouth body sits on the river bank near me (upside down). I haven't yet measured it closely, but the lines of the prospective Plymouth sedan rear panel look to be almost dead-on for the Ford Deuce sedan. I suppose it would be a bit sacreligous, but I am seriously thinking of transplanting that nice Plymouth rear panel onto the back of my Deuce Tudor. Otherwise, I may not get this rod built in my lifetime. I think that I could make it work (the splicing and welding), but would welcome the thoughts of those familiar with both the Plymouth bodies and the Ford Deuce bodies. Or, is this concept just too taboo (no offense to the members of the large and growing HAMB "Plymouth Club").

  2. If you could cut and splice and make it look good, then go for it. But if it ends up looking wierd, well...it'll look wierd!

Would you scoff at a car that had the rear pan completely built from scratch? I wouldn't sweat it. If someone says "hey, that rear pan came from a Mopar!" I'd be damned shocked. If they do say that, just say "good eye!" and walk off. As to whether or not it'll fit, well.... make it fit! :D

As long as it looks good, that's what its all about - building with what you can find.

The only REAL difference will be the shape of the rear window.
So, if it is doable, do it. And if you're really good change the window opening for your unless it is trashed. I think I would leave it as is though as a curiosity. You can watch all the guys looking at that back glass and wondering...?

you gotta be kidding me. You want to cut up a decent Plymouth to fix an old Ford? What the hell's wrong with you?!

Do it! We never would have suspected if you hadn't said something.

    Dude, ...it's your car.

If you like it (for whatever reason) that's all that matters. Anybody that doesn't like it should go piss-up-a-rope. These cars aren't built by concensus, ...if they were, they'd be identical.

The metal can't tell if it's on a Plymouth or a Ford.
If anyone questions the window, tell them it's some ultra-rare factory conversion.
If anything, you have a name for the car "Bastard Deuce" .

How many roofs got filed with station wagon tops? Go for it.

  13. You'll never see the back of the body when your cruising the wheels off of it.

Can you match up the body line? I'd say go for it.

I've seen about a thousand cars that people put a 32 FRONT (grille) on, so why not be different and just put a little more than just the front on that Plymouth.

I dunno man, changing up a deuce is risky. Awful valuable car to go customizing to save a buck instead of customizing to improve. Sure seems it's worthy of the right panel. good luck

  19. Ask any complainer how much he is willing to pay you to do it their way. Have fun, man. You don't need anyones permission.

If it means getting your car on the road,or not,do it.
Its way cooler to drive a car than look at part of a car.

Car guys have been building bastard rods forever. How many dueces do you see with the original engine? It's a little different i know, but it's yours. I say if you can make it work, and look good, and drive it sooner, do it! I mean shit, it's just a 32 ford.:D
