  3. Brash statement by the mayor, the reason they dont run em underground is the cost. Wait til you hear the uproar over the increases in taxes and fees. Dead people or not.

we caught the wrath of that storm also.could be 4 more wks without power.we have water, gas logs and cooktop,we also bought a generator.thankfully gas isnt 4$ a gallon.some people around have it a lot worse than us.havent been in my garage going on 2 weeks,I MISS MY GARAGE.

  5. I'd take a foot of snow over an inch of ice any day! That shit is wicked. Everytime I have a similar situation, I always think about getting a generator. Seems like I never do though........

No, I don't think you get the same thing in MN. You may have gotten a massive blizzard of snow. The ice is different. Everything covered in 2" thick ice. Stuff comes crashing down. Looks like a bomb went off aroud here.

quick note for all you guys with generators.please open your main when your running them .you can actually send power from your generator out through your service , through the transformer and step up the voltage to primary voltage to a downed wire that people would presume dead.gets alot of people hurt.

Read that it costs $1,000,000 a mile to put wires underground !!! I don't think Kentucky tax payers will go for that.

Glad everyone is your house is OK. we had a bit up here in St. Louis MO last year. But nothing like that. I did however go drag my 2 generators out of storage and have one running in case we get something like that. I'll be working on the other this weekend.

It never crossed my mind that the gas pumps don't work without power!! I'll keep that in mind for next time. I'm gonna pick up an extra propane tank to keep around the house too. I have electric cook top. I had to fire up the grill when we lost power last time.

I also asked an electrician how to back feed my power box to run the fans in our gas furnace. So I can run the generators back into the house. and keep the fridges/freezers running.

Wow my Old Man lives in a "cliff hanger" on the side of Crow Mountain in Russelville. He was iced in for a couple weeks but maintained power. Looks crazy!

I had four days without power last winter because of ice. Heated and cooked with the wood stove, powered radio and tv off 12v batteries I pulled out of some of my cars. Best move was I actually had listened to the forecast and filled the tub with water. With a well no power means no water. When the predicted ice this year I bought a generator but haven't had to use it yet.
