I'm enjoying reading all of your feedback! Please do note that Grundy offers Unlimited Mileage and Towing and Labor costs as part of the standard Agreed Value policy-- and our towing feature is for a tow company of your choice ---you are then reimbursed, up to $250 each occurrence. These are included at no additional cost. But, Houston54 is right... we will only insure vehicles that are used for pleasure and hobby use... not daily drivers. But.... while using the cars for those purposes, you can drive them without limit! Toast.. I'm glad you found us and have enjoyed working with us!

I called Grundy yesterday (spoke with Chimere...very nice and professional) and am switching my 59 Chevy and 60 T-Bird to them. State Farm was putting the screws to me. Grundy was WAY cheaper for the same coverage.

The following is taken directly from the "American Collectors Insurance" website under policy features for their collector vehicle policies:
Agreed-Value Coverage – This pays the vehicle’s full-insured value (less any applicable deductible) with no depreciation in the event of a total loss.

The following is part of their vehicle qualifications:
Kept in a fully-enclosed, locked garage
Driven for pleasure only, and not for general transportation

Just a note, I have a friend who had a 48 ford truck insured with Grundy, last year his garage burnt to the ground with his truck in it. Grundy paid off no problems at all. He wanted to keep what was left after the fire, I think he paid 250. to keep his truck, more than fair. He said grundy paid quicker than his homeowners policy did.

The problem is not a question of agreed or stated But who can you get coverage thru WITH NO GARAGE? Grundy, Hagerty, have both said No

I went to Grundy a couple days ago... on my 60 ford pickup at $5000, liability was $62.50 a year... that's a joke! Heck I think my hemi pickup is $100 a month full coverage.

So I'm using Grundy, hope I get to talk to Becky too!!

I'm with Grundy and couldn't be happier with the price. Coverage of $44,000 for $298 per year. Back when I left State Farm I was paying $245 per 6 months for $25,000 stated value. As Becky said earlier they have Inflation Guard I was at $40,000 when I first got their insurance and every year they increase it. From 08 to 09 my coverage went from $42,000 to $44,000 and the cost went up $11.00. How many times do you see only an $11.00 increase per year in you daily drivers premium?

I have mine with State Farm also and they only asked me if the car is used for pleasure , car outings , a back up car or daily driver . Never asked if I had a garage . I have one now but still only pay $72 for 6 months ! Get a garage and you have a lot more places to get your car insured by ! Worth every penny !

the dont ask dont tell policy does not work, read your policy about vehicle being secured, dont wait till you find out you are not covered, because of section a or b.

I'm not a laywer, and free advice is worth exactly what you pay for it.
Anyway, In Illinois you are limited by how you register the car. To get antique or collector car ins. you have to buy antique plates. That limits you to " parades, shows or transport to a repair shop" and 2500 miles a year.
I have all my cars and house with State Farm. I won't fight my wife on that. I let her win some. Whenever they don't agree to my stated value, I pay $30 for an appraisal and send 2 photos of the car. No problem. The owner of a local body shop was an adjuster for Some-states and has a nice collection of his own and wrote a great appraisal, listing all the mods and improvements. (ex: a "Corvette" engine). I've done this on 8 cars so far.
That is AFTER I lost a 65 Nova to thieves and they paid me book value. They ***ume it has an engine, wheels, tires, runs, and drives. They are not responsible for any more. It's up to you to protect yourself by informing them of mods and value adders. Shop around for an agent that is informed. It's your money.
I once rented a near-by garage and they were OK with that. How would they know if you were lying?

12. If you want clear mind and sleep better knowing that your not taking the chance in fraud.. Rent a garage.. Find someone near you that has garage space ask to rent there garage for X amount.. or go into town with mills or work spaces etc.. and ask around who will rent out a space to you.. If something happens when its parked at your place say .. yea i parked there over night and there is nothing wrong with that.. I would call a reputable company and say " Look i dont have a garage or money to build one but i will be renting from ( said address) and it will not be in there every single night brah rah rah " I rented garage space many of times, now i have a garage but I plan on doing more projects and dont have the space, so back to renting when that time comes..

13. I have J.C. Taylor on all my old cars. No problem! And one is kept in the driveway.

Hi! :)

16. All the comments seem to be about front end service.....conditions, and price. I think the real measure of Cl***ic Car Insurance is found when you make a claim. Thankfully, I have not had to do so yet, so I cannot comment, but surely someone has had experience. Speak up.

There are no mileage limits with Grundy or Hagerty, the car just can't be used for daily driving, in other words you just need to provide them with the declaration page (first page) of your daily driver insurance. Simple as that. It's not hard to figure out that I put ALOT of miles on my car for someone who is not retired BUT Grundy knows I take care of said car.

As far as ALWAYS parking your cl***ic in your garage, Grundy and Hagerty know that people take their cars to out of town shows and events and that these cars are parked in motel/hotel parking lots over night or that sometimes a person might spend the night at their boyfriends place after a cruz night or something.:D I know my car is covered NO MATTER where it is parked or when. The fact that I have a garage and he's parked in there the majority of the time is good enough.

I lost a '47 Chevy convertible to a shop fire. My car was parked in someone else's shop. I was completely covered and received my check for the full amount from Hagerty within 28 days. Big Olds is in a shop getting paint work done right now. I know that he is completely covered by Grundy while he's in that shop no matter what happens (heaven forbid).

I switched from Hagerty to Grundy many years ago because Grundy is less expensive for the exact same coverage.

Hi Becky, glad to see you on the HAMB. I've been singing Grundy's praises here for years. Glad to see someone from there here finally.

I hear alot about the mileage restrictions. My company allows 10k miles a year and I drove the wheels off the car last year and didnt even come close to that. So to me, that is a mute point. What is most important to me is "agreed value". As long I have that, the other restrictions I can deal with. I sell insurance for a compe***or and not once have I had a client bock about the mileage restriction. Been doing this 15 years!

19. Just how much CAN you drive the car with a Grundy or Hagerty policy? I'm retired and will be driving the Roadster almost every day during the Summer, and storing it in a locked garage over the Winter. I have other "primary" vehicles, but during the Summer, the Roadster will be driven as much as I can. What exactly IS considered a "daily driver", by the Insurance Companys? Do they charge exhorbitant prices for cars with blown Hemi's and stuff like that...I'm talkin' real Hot Rods...

We offer unlimited mileage, but will not insure "daily drivers"-- "daily drivers" are considered cars you use to drive to work or run errands. We encourage pleasure driving and hobby use. See below information from an interview I did with Chuck Wasoski, VP Collector Car Insurance at Grundy:

Well, what if I’m from <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com[IMG]New York and I want to drive my car to a show in California--Am I covered the whole way?

“You are covered the whole way!” explains Chuck. “We offer all of our Agreed Value policies with ‘Unlimited Mileage.’ You can drive your car as far and as often as you’d like, as long as it is not used for daily transportation. Our policyholders are advised that their cars must be used for pleasure and hobby use—and, we encourage our drivers to get on the road and remain active in the hobby. Grundy customers are offered unlimited pleasure through our unlimited mileage feature.
<O:p
Do I need to stay with my car at collector car events? Do you have an attendance clause?
“No,” says Chuck. “Our policy doesn’t have an attendance clause. We feel as though our customers should be able to enjoy the hobby and the event they attend. How can they do that if they’re standing with their car the whole time?”<O:p

<O:p
How about this-- Is my car covered in a repair shop?
“Yes,” says Chuck. “It’s fully covered. The whole time."<O:p</O:p
<O:p

Is it covered if I take my wife out for a bite to eat?“
Yes. Occasional pleasure drives, which would include a bite to eat, are covered with a Grundy policy,” says Chuck. “That is, as long as the vehicle is not used as your daily transportation.”

You say my car is covered for “pleasure and hobby use.”-- What does this mean?
“Well, pleasure use is driving your vehicle at your leisure. Going out to a nice dinner with your spouse, or taking a cruise in the country,” explains Chuck. “And, hobby use includes shows, parades and different events. We ask that you not use collector vehicles as your main means of transportation, but Grundy wants you to enjoy your vehicle. We want you to participate in this hobby that our company has been helping to preserve for 62 years.”

I jusst changed insurance and quoted both Grundy and Haggerty, and the information you posted above it not what I was told.

I told both companies that I occasionally drive my vehicle to work, and take my kids to shcool, karate etc. I was very honest. I was told twice by the grundy rep I talked to that I would not be covered at work, or the others I metnioned, not once but twice. I have a daily vehicle and a locked garage.
Also I was told that if I go to the parts store or anything else not in the process of going to or returning from a car show, parade or meeting that I would not be covered. I do not rmember who I spoke to, it was back in Nov. I went to Haggerty because they told me I would be covered in all cases above, even though I paid almost double what I would have.

I'm not trying to cause a problem, but I was honest and asked and those were the answers I was given.

I taked with a rep at Gundy also as I am shopping around for insurance. I got about the same answers about not being a "daily driver" but could take the "out to eat or pleasure drive". I asked about going to work since we do have "display days" when we have some activity or the guys decide to all drive, the opinion here was it was not covered. I also asked about "vacation" and this was nixed.
Bur t what is those trips include a cruz-in or maybe I am doing a "road-test"? I have to drive a ways from home to do any "interstate" travel.

Also I have a trailer hitch (fiberglas mullins trailer), is that allowed?

Breeder, my company that will do a "under construction" vehicle. When its completed it can be rolled over to a "cl***ic" program. There are some guidelines we have to meet inorder to do this so that could be a deciding factor.

Sorry about probs you had with State Farm - I've been with them since the early 60's and never had a problem with any claims - maybe it was the adjuster or that office. . .

If this was directed at me I was with them for almost 30 years and only had a problem with them the one time. I switched the cpe to Grundy 3 years ago for the agreed value insurance. When my State Farm agent told me he was retiring I went looking elsewhere for all my other insurance needs. I saved over $900 a year on my house, truck, wife's car, travel trailer, car trailer, cargo trailer, laptop, 2 35m cameras and 2 kayaks with the new company. I felt that was well worth changing for.

Hi there! We insure works in progress! We ask that the car be at least 80% complete. It would be covered.
