1937 Hudson 2 Door Coupe

I am looking at a 1937 Hudson 2 door coupe that is a complete rolling shell. Body is in fair condition with minimal rust and it is not all beat to hell. I like the look of the car, well with the exception of the ugly dam grille that is. Any ideas on what a rolling project car like this is worth? Just trying to make sure I am in the ball park $$$$ wise.

Ugly grill? You sure you actually don't just want to get another car with a grill you like better?

 

I have a vision of what I can make this car into. Maybe it is a hallucination, don't know yet lol.

 

Well I have to take the ugly grille comment and stuff it up my ass now. I did a search and found several shots of that grille used in the manner I am thinking and it flat out rocks! What we learn as we grow old!

 

Put a '38 grille and a 502 Chevy in it.

 

I might agree with the '38 grille but that car needs a BIG Hudson Hornet engine ala Uncommon Engineering.

Whatever you feel comfortable paying.If it's not causing a rise in the shorts now dont buy it as it will just get uglier as your working on it.Ya gotta WANT to wrench on it

 

A 6 cyl sold around here last year (I think it was auctioned on ebay) for ~$3,200 it was in great shape and complete to the last bolt, with a completely rusted out engine.

just FYI, the Hudson Terraplane front end sheetmetal and frame is different for an 8 cyl then for a 6, the 6 is actually shorter.

 

I should be safe paying $500 for the car then, thanks guys!

I actually like the way the body looks and that 38 grille may be the way I go. Kicking around channeling the body over the frame and losing the fenders. Old school sort of look.

 

Dude, pulling the fenders off of a late '30's coupe or sedan may well get you the "old school sort of look" that could maybe get yer car pictured in Ol Skool Rodzzzzzzzzz, but it sure ain't gonna improve the way it looks!

I've seen this done a few times for salt flat cars for the aerodynamics, but on a street car, why bother?

Good point, I will take a good look at it and decide what best suits my tastes once I have it in the shop. I like the look of that white one with the 38 Grille.

 

If you can score it for $500 and then change your mind, I'm betting you can double or triple your investment, even in these economic times.

 

Get it they are different. Mine is on that web site, the purple chopped 37 4dr. Hudsons are close to the Terraplane.

 

It is a Terraplane, does that make any difference?

And I want something different, I can't afford my dream rig "37 Ford Slantback" right now so I am opting for something different. Good old corporate downsizing aided by telling my dumb ass boss she was an idiot "she is" cost me a bundle a year in additional salary so I have to pinch the pennies.

Most of the pieces from a '37 Terraplane will change with a '37 Hudson - the differences are extremely minor. Running boards are slightly different, and there is more chrome on a Hudson. The '36, although it looks the same overall, is quite a bit different than the '37 cars, as the '36 cars are narrower, shorter, have a different front suspension, and more!

BTW, if you feel the need to part with that ugly '37 grille, please let me know, as I like that "ugly" grille. I'll even pay to have it shipped!

 

I am probably crazy but I would rather be building a wagon like that 56 in your avatar.
