  2. Seems to me a heater is a safety item, you need to have something that will defrost or defog the windshield, unless you live in an area where it's never humid and the temperature is always pretty constant. And you plan to never fool around in the car with the windows rolled up.

Haven't checked the law here for a while, but used to around here you had to have defroster.

There is a chance you might be, even if you don't install a heater.

It's just an aftermarket heat/air unit I got from Shane (a fellow Hamber) at Southern Rods,,,here in South Carolina.

    What's your problem?,,,ya don't like fruit salad? :D

Thank's,,I was looking for something to cover the foam and didn't want to use the same old South of the Border blanket that you see all the time and I remembered the material my mom bought back in 1964 to cover some windows and my dad said,,,not no, but HELL NO!

The colors went with the green on the wheels and I said why not,,,until I get the black and white tuck & roll it will serve the purpose,,,

People like it or hate it,,,thats cool with me. HRP

  13. I have a '30s vintage Hot Wave heater in my '38 Ford pickup. The round art deco case looks very similar to the one pictured in one of the earlier posts in this thread. It puts out some serioius heat and has a good defrost. The guy I got it from at Hershey years ago said he took it out of a '35 Olds, but it's a universal aftermarket unit. Most cars that had a heater back in the day had one of the aftermarket units. The heaters that carried the car manufacturer's name were generally a dealer-install option (as most optional equipment was back then). Most people bought one of the aftermarket units instead of buying one from the car dealer. So far the 6V motor on mine has held up fine with a voltage reducer in line. I'm in NW Georgia which is a warmer climate than say, Chicago, but I will readily admit I don't handle cold well, my old bones like to be warm. No A/C on my truck other than Henry's roll-out windshield.

times got real hard around here in '94 (had the flood from hell!) and then wife's daily driver went down. didn't have time or money to fix it right then so the '59 ford convt. was pressed into daily service. of course it was winter and she and the kids were freezing in that drafty old ragtop. so, i took a chance and cleaned up and hooked up the factory heater that hadn't been used in at least 25 years...figured the core was just mush. wrong...the thing held pressure and the mechanicals worked fine after the clean and oil job i had done. mamma was happy, the kids were happy, and i was amazed after being used to dealing with leaky cores in late model stuff. just helps prove...THEY DON' T MAKE 'EM LIKE THEY USED TO!

This 40's Chev heater works great in mine. Almost get as much heat from thru my floors when the MC access panel is off.

Bastad, that flaked heater looks great. i just purchased a vintage 40's ford script heater (have no idea what it's out of). It will be going into my 41 truck though.

heater is a safety thing, when it gets below a certain temp you can start to get hypothermia, now AC, got two of those, one on the left and one on the right. i won't repeat what i think of AC. I just ripped out my entire non functioning junk system anyway. hasn't worked in ten years. And I live in south georgia. it's been proven that getting too cold while driving can actually slow your reaction time way down.

It's still sitting on the shelf.:D

The best suggestion that I ever heard from a hard core long distance roadster driver was to mount snaps on the top of the heater. With the mating snaps mounted in an army blanket. When the army blanket is snapped in place on the heater and laying on your lap, the heat escapes around your body. Fold it up and put it in the trunk for the summer.

  30. Good suggestio.

I've seen Velcro under the dash edge to hold the blanket up.

A blanket over your lap helps a lot as well.
