does anyone know of the perfect roof to cut for my 30 model a 4dr? im at the stage where i need to start putting a roof in the car and would like to maybe use a van or wagon top. is there a special make, year that will work best? or is there a company that would have a premade top i can buy? i know theres a hamber out there that has done this before. will you help a new hamber out with this problem? thanks alot

  2. I would say make a radius pattern of your A then take it to the boneyard with you and compare it. Simple and quick. might help.

Try Walden Speed Shop, they have top quality inserts, but they ain't giving them away. But until you've tried welding a thin roof insert into a model a sedan top, you really can't appreciate having one with the correct crown, made from thicker sheetmetal.

From what I am told (dont know for sure) an 80s Cadillac roof turned around backwards contour is the exact same as a model A. Hope this helps

  5. One of the coolest roofs I've seen on a Model A 4 door was cut from a mid 50s Pontiac Safari wagon...had mild ribs in it that ran side to side...looked like a lot of sectioning, but looked really trick...anybody know what model it was from?

Ive been told a astro van works but might want to check it out.

  7. I'll be doing that this weekend, looking for a doner for my '28 Tudor.

I'm told that late model Volvo wagons and many minivans have the same profile as Model A sedans.

    Hope this helps.

  8. Probably a Pontiac Safari. Those don't exactly grow on trees.

I've heard the Astro, too, I hadn't heard of the mid-80's Caddy, but if they do work then a number of other mid-80s fullsize GM cars would work too.

  10. I saw a long roof A that had an insert made of, I'm guessing, teak. Looked like the deck on an old Cris Craft. Just a thought........Thanks, Mike
