Just for the few that don't know what I'm talking about

Here's Zachs nose ....... Kirt your going to have a Collier MG not Mercedes GP as you wish.

Just a couple inches too tall and too narrow.

And I laugh at RED GREEN TOO!!!

Its all about the radiator hole size,
that will make or break it.
(well and the grill insert too)

    I think its great,
    and the workmanship -
you are lucky to have someone so good at your disposal.
    Fun to watch progress.

Pretty lame when guys take the time to host a pretty killer build thread and people feel obligated to give their .02!!!!

You don't like what you see, well, close the page and go on to something else!!!! I don't think they were looking for build ques when they took the time to start the thread.

Man! Custom J that is a killer nose I really like it. Is there a thread going for your build? I would love to follow it. I think Zack’s A is super cool too. We should start an aluminum shapers club on the HAMB. And you have to show pics of your work to get in.

First I never said the nose was poorly made! And haven't attacked these guys personally! The word 'Mother' was not used! I spoke only to the shape of the nose. You should know that for many years I've designed and MADE my own bodies. All too often here the 'Sweet' Lemmings mistake craftsmanship for good design. I fully understood the styling clues these guys were using. We built a car in that mode 20 years ago. AND Having done that I understand well the fact that the opening size and shape make the whole thing work. My comments were and are based on building with my own hands.

I never said the nose should be tossed. Only it's too tall.

I used Zach's nose because it's something most you have seen. NO Never did I say 'He's the only guy here' THERE ARE MANY SKILLED GUYS HERE,

Being in a project from the beginning is often no asset ....... people end up too close to a project to see it's flaws. Remember the 'New Super X' bike a few years ago. Nice guys with money and a good idea, lots of styling clues. Results were BUTT UGLY

If I had no respect for these guys I wouldn't have posted "Stop stand back and look" Which is exactly what it was no more or less.

If you think its personal or mean spirited your wrong.

It's a matter of small changes not throw it away ........ I was suggesting that it be altered not tossed.

Once again Craftsmanship has nothing to do with style and line! AND I'm not personally attacking these guys. But I might start in on some of you if you can't understand what I'm saying and allow me to say it.

And I do understand from the photos that the nose height is a direct result of extending the hood at the same angle of the cowl's slope. A slight tip there has inches to do with the final nose shape. Cause I have done all this and for many years.

Bluto's right,I gotta agrree with him on the size of that nose.
For those in the cheer squad,Forget that they went about building the buck to it the right way and have put a ton of work into shaping it.
If you are going to use early race cars as an example ,you should consider that the idea was to get as small a frontal profile as possible. I have made mine a little too small in that the lid and nose are on the engine rather than above it,but in a race car in those days, thats what it was. Especially Mercedes. I have some really great factory prints here on my office walls of the Silver Arrow cars and the prewar V8 grandprix cars and the noses and hood panels were almost touching the mechanicals underneath. .
On the legion roadster there is a ton of room above the engine so The nose could be sloping a lot steeper and closer to the engine .

No worries at all. Seriously. I am the first to defend people's right to their opinion.

We'll get some pics up of what we're looking at.

I have seen this thing in person, and I am impressed by the metal shaping.

I thought about offering my opinion while there, but no one asked me what I thought and I am not going to assume you guys are looking for my input.

But honestly, if you put something up on here, you can't expect all the responces to be positive.

And, as you two have your opinions about details of cars you don't like,(think reliability run) you have to expect that others might do the same.

I think that there are things that would improve the nose, and I think that Bluto's first few posts could have been more clear if he wanted to help you guys, which it sounds like he is trying to do now.

bottom line is even if you don't change anything, you will have a unique car with some great craftsmanship, and hopefully you will have some fun actually driving this thing.

And if you are not in a hurry, you might take a step back and think about how to refine your already good design. The nose on this thing is going to be a huge focus of the car, so
why not try take the time to hear some of these guys input, take what you want and discard the rest.

Matt, you have impressed me with your abilities, and I am glad to see you and kirk working on this thing together.

thanks for posting this build on here, and if you want my opinion just ask.

I think Kirk understands where Bluto is coming from. Bluto said nothing that I saw as negative, I found it to be constructive criticism. I applaud the quality of the fab work but can also see Bluto's point. No matter wether they choose to take his suggestions or not it will be bad ass....

Quick and easy way to mockup the nose / hood further -- but before doing additional metalwork is to:

    - get out the masking tape and stretch some lines to emulate top / edges (use posterboard if you want to define further ala vents w/marker pens then)
    - cut some posterboard to emulate the depth of the bellypan if you are adding one
    - get out the black marker pen and draw a grille shape(s) -- easy to erase with brake clean

Roll outside and "eyeball engineer" it from 50 and 100 feet away from various angles. Take front / side and 3/4 pictures and post!

Roll back inside and finish it then!

It should only take @1 hr to do the above. If corrections needed, easier to do now then later. If no corrections needed and the project looks perfect -- you just have confirmation of your vision.

    Here's a super sloppy quick mock-up.

Also keep in mind that these shots we're posting are taken with an 18mm wide-angle lens in close quarters. I'm only about six feet away and I'm able to get the whole car in the frame - basically it's a fisheye lens. Check out the angles of the posts, file cabinet and other (usually) vertical lines.
