Here is one I helped on the rebuild for the Crawford Auto-Aviation Museum. Indy 500 Rcer Belanger Special #17 You can see the spiffy lockwire work I did. No one else wanted to do it. Nice "s" pattern duplication.
I am a big fan off early indy etc. I have a number of books on Miller and the Offenhauser. At the moment I am in the process of reading. Offy America's Greatest Racing Engine By Kenneth E Walton ISBN 0-9270347-1-4 I bought this book the 10th edition a few months ago on Alibris. This book is in my view the best technical history of the Offenhauser. It contains a wealth of statistics, measurements, hundreds of photos; many of which show side by side differences of Offy engine parts as they developed and changed. This book is big on the technical aspects and small on race results, which are not necessry in a book such as this! From when Harry Miller first started with the Miller engine right up to the Drake/Gossen/Sparks Offy block developed in the early '70's to remain compe***ive with the rule changes that were being introduced as regard fuel efficiency and boost limitions on turbo's Geoff aka whodaky
there was a video Floating around somewhere i thought YOUTUBE but i cant find it there anymore. it was a dyno shot of a Offy, i guess i dont know which, probably the smaller one, with a turbo setup on a dyno. that thing screamed! ran it under load for a few mins untill the exhaust was red hot.
Hey, this is great stuff..... Keep it coming. Dakota, I remember seeing that video awhile back. Looked like that turbo was gonna melt. There's a great scene in the Clark Gable movie "To please a lady" that shows a montage of a 255 or 270 being ***embled. Great movie by the way, if you haven't seen it. I'm looking for a fuel injection set up for my offy if anybody knows of one.
The Speedway Motors Museum http://www.museumofamericanspeed.com/ has some Offy engines on display. Here are just a few of their collection -- I'll have to get more photos the next time I am there. I'm pretty sure the engines on the top shelf are not Offenhauser, but this photo shows a very very small portion of the huge Speedway collection...
