COOOOOL THREAD. Great pooches (and other pets too) everyone. I haven't had a dog in over 25 years but now i'll never be without one for the rest of my days. We just adopted 2 cute mutts this past year, Axle, a lab pit mix and Benny a Heinz 57 mutt. Got both from the local rescue. We now volunteer with the rescue to help get dogs adopted when we can. Both were just under 1 year old when we got them and are loyal, happy, loving pets. They really get excited about going for rides in the car. Along wth the dogs my other 2 best co-pilots are my 2 kids, John & Grace. here's a few pics of them. Axle & Benny in my WAY OFF TOPIC Willys street rod (Haven't been able to get them to hop over the roll cage in the race car yet). And both of them with the kids. Axle is the golden colored mutt and Benny is the orange colored cutie. Axle is an angel while Benny is my happy little spaz dog.:D

Benny on the left, Axle on the right. Benny thinks he owns everything.

Beautiful dog....almost like my boy....he is a red nose as well. I wish people understood pits and stop listening to the media and judged all the same. It would be like me saying all kids are bad and need to be put down becuase of the Columbine shootings...seems I can judge everyone on 1 case...right?

He is a damn sweetheart but his looks make him intimidating, but hell he doesnt know people are scared of his looks. He just walks right up to anyone wanting a treat....then people start freaking. One guys started yelling he was getting attacked. This was at a restaurant where they allow dogs. My poor dog was scared shitless with this guy yelling. My dog was trying to get a french fry I dopped...idiots.

[IMG][/quote]beautiful dogs, and you are right,it's how they are raised, just like kids, all dogs are pack animals, so your family being the pack, thats who they learn from. raise them in a loving home, they are loving, raise them with violence, they are violent and unpredicable. I'm a big fan of caesar, the dog whisperer, he has quite a few rescued pits himself. Off topic, did you see the sports illustrated about some of Vics dogs that were rehabilated? only positive thing i've seen about pits in the mainstream media in a long time. At least out of all that horror, some of them were saved and now have good lives and good homes. oh they do have a Vic chew toy for pits now, looks just like him.

Great looking dogs. I rescued a couple more APBT over the summer which I couldn't be more proud and happy of. Of coarse my dogs have more terrier in them and are not as stacked as yours but they are definitely all pit. One of them I rescued with the help of Brandon Bond who sheltered 6 of Michael Vicks dogs. Most of the dogs rescued form bad news kennel are doing great now and are adopted for the most part. Some of them even went on to become help dogs for seniors and children. I will never own another dog unless it's a American Pit Bull partly because they need more good homes and because no other dog shows affection like them.

Here is my fleet. Bud is the red dapple and he's the oldest, he'll be 6 in August. Duke is the black one, his birthday happens to be 6-6-06 haha and Sophie is the newest and youngest, she'll be 2 in April, but here's when she was just a couple weeks old. They're all miniature Dachshunds and they're a handful! But I love um!!

yes I did read it. Im a huge pit bull advocate and lover of the breed. I only rescue though and do not believe in breeding, only becuase THOUSANDS are killed each day and I think they are enough dogs needing homes and adding to the population isnt helping. This is a MAJOR cuase of why the government is implicating the BSL which allows the government to come into our homes and take your dog away and destroy them, some on the spot. (the thugs who think its cool to have a pit because of their looks only) Im in awe thinking that our government has this ability...this is breed specific and is in no difference to what Hitler did to the jews. And i swear to god if any people come on here and say well pits do this and that then your an ignorant ASSHOLE who needs to research before you speak. I wouldnt suggest tips of how to customize cars to 99% of the poeple on here due to my lack of knowledge so dont challenge my knowledge of BSL and the facts of pit bulls...to the liberals out there...seriously dont try it or Ill embaress you!

Anywho, its such a shame what this breed has has come to. 50 years ago the name "American" Pitbull was given to theis breed due to the love, obeidence, and highly family orienbted animal. So AMERICANS adopted this dog as the American Pitbull. Presidents had these as their own, the only dog to ever grace the cover of Time magazine was a pit named stubby who actually was awarded a medal in WW 2 for helping American soldiers. Google it. The biggest drug bust ever to be recorded by a K9 is a pit bull. To this date the highest rank given to a breed regarding temperment is the American Pitbull. I can go on and on...sorry to state actual facts unlike our media. Last year doemstic cats contributed to more ER visits than pitbulls, add labs, cocker spaniels, dalmations to this list. Not to mention anytime something happens whether the person knows the animal or not they "suggest" its a pit. Now here we are, as a veteran, come home from a war my government sends me to and then tells me Im not allowed to have my dog, my family member, my best friend.

People fear what they dont know. and to the people who say I have a freind that has a pit and blah blah blah....well I have a scar on my face from a shitzu, last year a 2 year old was killed by a maltese...didnt hear about it did you. My girl was attacked by a German Shepard, I love those dogs as well. So next time to those who encounter a pit dont judge, chances are they just want a treat, ask and learn, also know that ignorance is taught.

Damn now Im worked up....im jsut really appauled that the BSL law will hit Atlnata and they come to take my baby boy away from me...no matter the dog how would you feel if the government came to your house, took him away and destroyed him all becuase of the way he looked!

sigh.....ok anyway keep posting pics of our best friends ...I need to smile now. hahahah

OMFG! I never expected a dude to post pics of a bunch of wieners on the HAMB! LOL!

I have a silver dapple... ever since he first came home, no one has been able to plop down on the bed again (for fear of squishing 'em).

My poor little buddy... I tell him all the time that it's not his fault his breed was based on some drunk German's dare. :D

And I feel the same damned way about the persecution of Rottweilers! I have had 3 of them and they have just got to be the sweetest dogs on the friggin' planet. Any dog is how it's raised. I doubt any were born with a "killer instinct". The meanest dog I ever had was a Dachshund and the only time I was ever bit was once by a Cocker Spanial and once by a Spitz (Samoyed nowdays).

My nephew owns an insurance company and he will not insure your house if you have one of these "bad" dogs ... That's just stupid and I've told him so. His answer is "it's just company policy". Well, they can shove their company policy and I find a company that will. To take my dog would be like taking my gun. Good luck.

Hahaha, I'll have to tell my girlfriend that one. They disappear a lot, I was looking for Duke the black one, one day, and I lay down on the bed and my pillow feels funny, he was in the pillow case under the pillow... odd character hahaha, they're great dogs though!

This thread is VERY close to my heart, because other than rods and kustoms my other main interest is the Bull Terrier (you guys probably know them as English Bull Terriers)
I have been owned by Buster for almost 14 years. He is with out doubt the best dog and friend I have ever had.
I have also been quite heavily involved in rescuing this breed, and have fostered and help rehome over 16 of them in the last 2 years. I have 3 of them at the moment, Buster, Milly (a miniture who was left for dead ) and Brinny (who came from a local pound recently).
I have added some pics to this worthy thread.
I salute all of you on here who have helped rescue or taken in a poor soul and given them a new lease of life.

    Paul.

Well I'm a dog lover from a way back ! LOL Got 2 Cockers now and 4 Dals. The one that started my Dal mania is the one at the very back of this picture. He was dropped over my back fence when he was a 4 month old pup,he's right at 12 now. I've had about 10 of them in the last 12 years, some I fostered and most I rescued from the pound. The one on the far right is a foster that is 12-14 years old and will live the rest of her life with me,been here 18 months now. L-R Roxie 12,back Freckles 12, Front Domino 10 ,and Darla older than dirt LOL. Dals are a bit possive and Domino is never more than 3 feet from me anytime I'm home.

They actually banned the breed in Ontario. If you own one it must be fixed, if they are outside they must be muzzled. They have been trying to get it over turned the last couple years but so far (that I have heard) it is not happening.

Yeah I know Canada, Ohio, Denver, have all outlawed "Bullie" breeds. If you adopt they must be fixed anyway and I have no problem with that. In my county in Atlanta you cant have a pit outside in the yard un attended without a 6'fence. Mine wont even go outside if its raining so no biggie there either. I think Minnesota or somewhere just passed the law as well...such a shame.

Wensom Rods - So good you do that for the dogs. I wish I could take some in to foster but I work out of town and many hours but if I ever switch carreers thats what I want to do as well. My love for dogs is right there with hot rods. Actually most animals but Im glad so many feel the same as me.

If everyone loved as much as dogs this world would be a much better place thats for sure.

Pits are adorable. I've known several pits over the years that were just sweet as can be. Both of our rescue mutts are part pit and and very happy loving dogs. My parents weren't too fond of Axle when we got him, they said he looks like a little pit bull, then after 10 minutes of being around him they realized how sweet he is.

It's actually my brothers' dog. He whines like a little bitch when my bro's female goes in heat, so he comes and stays with me and 'maintains shop morale'. Once he gets in the car with me he knows he going to the place where whining isn't allowed. Such a good doggie. He's my bud.

We too have a dog pack of two, Aamos, a golden retriever/Australian shepard mix, and Dollop, a tiny Shi Tzu of maybe 7 pounds. We have cats bigger than her. Her name fits as she is just a "dollop" of a dog. These two are constant companions and love to get in the Explorer to go for rides, even to the Vet. Aamos, the big one, easily jumps into the back of the UAV and Dollop stands on her hind legs wanting to jump in, but desparately needing help up. I don't have HAMB suitable pictures, but, trust me, they are adorable (to my wife and I at least).

UAV: Urban Assault Vehicle. Slow drivers, bewareand move over, or you will be assualted.

Thanks to ALL of you who rescue dogs from bad places and inhuman people!!!

Our little Shi Tzu, Dollop, was found by my sister-in-law, abandonded on the road, in the desert. Naturally couldn't find the owner, so we took her in when we took in Aamos. He has skin lupus and couldn't live in Prescott where my sister-in-law lives.

Anybody who knows about Dachshunds, understands why they have the attitude that they have. They originated in Germany, and Dachshund, translates to Badger Hound. They were bred to hunt badgers by going into the badger burrows. Hence the long snout with long sharp teeth, the long toenails to dig with and the long, low-slung bodies. Kind of like some hot rods I've seen. Full of fight and ready to take on ANYTHING, no matter what the size. If you've ever seen badgers, you know how nasty they can be. I'd bet on the dachshund any day of the week.

After a couple big dogs, an Afgan Hound, and later a Bernese Mtn Dog, we found ourselves with this. Rescued from a hoarder, just getting socialized to other people and dogs, 80 lbs of attitude in 8 lbs of dog. She is half Yorkshire Terrier, and toy Poodle. She is a great car alarm and decent navigator. Sits on the console arm rest.
Been from central ny to Mich, Va, NC, Florida, and other long trips.
