I have the 9301 Panel and am having trouble with a couple circuits. I wired my 56 Chevy with a 65 Impala tilt column for an automatic trans. Everything worked. Then I swapped the original 3 speed OD trans back into the car with the original column. I had to reolcate the fuse panel and took off some of the wires off the terminal strip. As I put them back, I didn't have a parklight circuit. So I jumpered the front parkights to the taillight circuit to be sure the wires were OK. They were. I took the temp wires off and reconnected the parkights and taillights. Now I have neither taillights nor parkights. I'm thinking bad headlight switch. any ideas?
Sounds obvious, but bear with me. Did you check the fuses? Use a test light to make sure you're getting power to the headlight switch. If you aren't, find out why. If you are, then use your test light to see if you're getting power to your head/tail light circuits when you pull the switch. If not, then I'd suspect the switch is the problem. Are you using relays to run power to your hi/lo beams and just using the dimmer switch as a trigger? that's my preference as I don't like so much power running through my headlight/dimmer switch and it helps keep it from burning out. madelectrical.com has a lot of info on them. Anyway that's my 2 cents, good luck.
Oh I'd never heard of that panel before, so I did a search <table border="0" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0"><tbody><tr><td> </td><td> </td><td> </td><td> </td><td> </td></tr><tr></tr></tbody></table> If you are building a 50's car, then this panel just may be the best for you. With 10 fuses, hazard and turn flashers and a built-in horn relay, it will easily handle the power needs for your car. To keep the size of the panel down, a five foot wiring harness has been built into the panel for the battery, accessory and ignition power inputs. In addition, wiring is included for the flashers and horn relay to the steering column, brake switch and part of the headlight switch. The terminal strip is used to make connections from the fuses to your accessories. Total mounting area required is only 6" x 5" with a depth of 2". For a complete harness kit order part number 9301H
yep - checked the fuses. yep - checked power to the headlight switch - its there nope not using a relay to the headlight switch Sort of sounds like your .02 is how I was thinking - thanks for the help.
Man just call up Calif.Rewire because they can diagnose that over the phone. They are good at what they do. I got my wiring from them and walked me through a problem before.
Thanks for the tips Well, I took the headlight switch out and used my test light - I had a bad terminal in the headlight switch. Here is the plug for California Rewire - its a good harness and easy people to work with. The only problem I'll have is the decision for the next project: California Rewire or Rebel wire.
Hey TMan. How is it going? yeah - I did a search last week and everything was thumbs up for Glenn and Rebel Wire. But I am on the 10 year plan with this car - I bought the panel in '99 before I knew there was a HAMB! If I ever get this bitch together I'll get it to the Black Hills Run.
Good here Tom, alternating between house and car stuff. Hope to pull the 250 sometime this spring and get a full rolling chassis................hmmm, need a goal, lets say full roller by the 4th of July!
Do you guys have a link to cal rewire's website? I just got a new project and it has one in it an I need to do some rewiring
