I'm due for an inspection, but the basics were all there at my first inspection and no major issues were raises. Did a few small fixes. I'm pretty sure I've totally resigned myself to SR permit. Full reg on this car is too hard I think...possible but hard.

  2. Finished chassis pics....?? What is this....Rodders Journal?!

I like this line..."I rolled the chassis out into the sunlight for the first time since finishing it".........If I was living in Kilmore, I'd be rolling the kids out into the sunshine to get some vitamin D!!

45 deg C or 113 F thought I was going to melt, makes the beer taste good.

Last Saturday makes 45 deg seem cool. Thankfully I think that kind of weather is behind us.

Been slowly working away. Having some real issues sorting out my clutch. I have a plan though and if it comes off I should have it sorted out this week. That's been holding up everything else because I can't install the motor and gearbox without the clutch and I can't drop the body on without the motor and box in and can't wire it and can't plumb the fuel lines. It has been a chance to catch up on a lot of little things that I've put to one side. That's good because as it turns out there's quite a few of them.

One important one was reconditioning my old Fordson fuel tank. I bought a cleaning and sealing kit. It was fairly labour intensive and time consuming but I think it has ended up pretty good. It was a 3 stage system. Once complete I mounted the tank on my chassis just for a look

The middle stage of the system is a rust remover, etch chemical that leaves a powdery grey finish that looks like an old water tank and can be left unpainted for about a month without flash rusting. I did the outside as well as the inside.

The brackets are now welded to the tank (thanks Binga) so the straps are really just for looks...although they do provide an additional bit of security too.

I've actually progressed a bit further but no pics yet. Paint is all done, detailing of the nailhead has begun and I've built a custom dash rail to go with the Hallock style screen. More soon

Thanks Swifty but I've got the pics :)

I'm not going for the super slick look. I have quite a few mis matched bolts etc that I hope to replace after I'm on the road. Trying not to be too fussy at this stage. It is black though so it will be reminiscent of yours. I've glass bead blasted all the polished aluminium for a more business like look.

  20. Glad I could help out.

    Looks good sitting on there.

  21. Striper---I just discovered this thread, and spent an hour reading through it. Excellent work, and a very nice looking car. If you didn't live on the opposite side of the friggin' planet, I'd come by for a look see!!! Now, like all the others, I will be looking foreward to "completed" shots. I hope you do alright with your licensing authorities over there. Here in Canada, I have found that when dealing with government authorities about licensing old cars and homebuilts, the best policy is to keep a straight face, and lie like a son of a bitch!!!:D:D----Brian

Just flicked through your thread. I didn't read it all. I just like the pictures. I think you and your boy leave me in the dust on the fabrication skills and the detail. Nice work.

Man, I was kind of hoping the car would be done by now. I wanted to see it finished. The suspense of reading since page 1 has been killing me! I bet you're dying to see it finished, too, seeing it is how you're building it.

Well, keep us posted. I can't wait to see this thing finished. Good luck with all that's left. I love to see a Nailhead in a rod.

  26. Hijack thread now,

The funny thing with the KUSTOM & HRK (Hot Rod Kid) build is HRK is only 13 so has another two years before HE can legally drive it, makes you wonder if dad has plans, well KUSTOM?????

    Return to normal service,

Pete, the cars looking good, keep up the progress Pic's. Great to see cars from downunder on the HAMB. Kev.

  27. I like the work you are doing... but your chassis is raked the wrong way.

If I could just get rid of my family, work and life outside the shed in general, I'd be there. ;)

Honestly, I probably would be done if I hadn't had the clutch issues. That's hot rodding (or so I'm told)

    :confused::confused::confused:
maybe it's a southern hemisphere thing. Everything seems the wrong way around

Pete ,thanks for that ,You have done a bloody great job, liked how you done the chassis with the rear kick-up,plus clever how you have done the kick-up in the front, looks smart.I will be following it now.

In an earlier post you said you would cop some flac about your front end ?? Cant see any thing wrong, You have giving me some ideas ,eg the spring mounts that rap around the whole 'bone' .
