Keith, are you aware of this "Large Scale" web site? Lots of good stuff there. You can also see my 1/8th build in an album my HAMB profile page. Gary

Dudes! What is the world coming to? I have gone to every possible place around me that used to sell models ... there are none left. None. I found a craft store with a few crappy late-model snap-tite kits, but there is nothing out there! Does it say something about the newer generation that there appears to be NO interest in modeling anymore? I'm going to have to special order everything online to get my modeling fix. What sad times are these?

  12. It's true! No one carries models anymore, it sucks. I have to order my cars online now.

its the glue. walmart stopped selling the glue because kids were huffing it. if there's not a decent hobby shop in your area online is the way to go.

i hear you and my LHS wants a fortune for one kit. I do all my shopping at model car shows. They have better prices and i'm still supporting the hobby. I save my money and shop at the nnl east and Mid atlantic NNL

    keith AKA modelcarjedi

this guy always has good prices

I had a partial 53 ford kit, I started slapping together parts a few weeks ago and ended up with this. kind of freaky, but I like the end result. :)

Man I know were your coming from. There were two hobbie shops in my area but one close up now. There is still Trains and lanes but I notice that there stock has been downsized.

Years ago you could go to Kmart, lanco and just about any store that had a toy department and pick up some good models.

Thanks for commiserating with me, guys. I'm sorry but a little glad that I'm not the only one. I suppose online is the way to go, but I miss the tactile experience of seeing all the models side by side and looking at all the different panels of the boxes, and picking the paints out by hand and, well, you guys get it I'm sure.
    Thanks for the tips.
Can someone refresh my memory on the name of that putty (mine was always a dark green) that you used when welding pieces together after butchering? Tough stuff, very strong and sandable. Can't remember that stuff for the life of me, but if I have a name, I should be able to order some online.
    Gracias.

You guys have me wanting to go back to doing models again. Was at a hobby shop just last week looking around, the owner said that he is going to start stocking models again he had about 300 model kits, one wall was just old style kits, prices was good from 11.00 to about 15.00. looking to do it again.

  22. Great bunch of models so far, I guess I am one of the lucky ones as far as hobby shops go, In the Indianapolis area we have 2 good LHS and a couple of Hobby Towns, we also have a few Hobby Lobbys, they're not all the cheapest places but we have a great selection and you get the tactile experience, I can always look and then go buy online!! Here's a few pics of my latest

    Yes.

The side windows are made from translucent loose leaf dividers from office depot. The windshield and rear window are tinted with a couple of light airbrush coats of transparent blue.

The AMT sedan kit has been out for years. Was re-issued at least twice and is now readily available on eBay.
