  1. Make friends with a cemetery caretaker, a guy I met a while back was one and said he got a regular publication of hearses for sale. Old and new.

Not to bring this thread back from the dead... (admittedly, that was lame as hell) - but I figure I'd throw in on it.

Here is the '68 S&S that used to be my wife's (this was used for some of the victims of the Wayne Williams murders):

And this is my baby 'Morticia' doing what she does best:

Here is us doing a funeral for a friend of a friend (I got to do a burnout with a body in the back - per the request of the folks who wanted me to do it):

I have a 49 packard hearse(henney). Sorry no pictures. they were on my other computer that got fried from lightning. I have it basically stripped down to a rolling shell. To many summer things and projects going on but hope to get back at it this fall.

I wonder if Tony Stewart still has his?

Yup.and I think the guys at Unique made it look like crap...The only thing I like about it is the motor and the paint job minus the murals and lettering...Other than that,it's no longer a hearse..They stripped out what is the essence of a hearse, the coffin table and rollers.Once you do thatmyou no longer own a hearse, you own a station wagon,or limo, but not a hearse.

Hearses have ALWAYS been customs. They are modified after leaving the factory by coach-builders...just like a limo. Try finding a 1939 Buick Carved Panel hearse coach lamp! ...Impossible, so we improvise, which is the same exact thing you do with your cars. A lot of hearse enthusiasts customize their hearses just like anyone would do with any other old car. We have a '58 Eureka hearse with a cad 500 engine and giant velocity stacks coming out of the hood.

Anyway, ...loosen up. We have a right to be here, too.

this isn't mine. my friend bought this about 10 years ago.
    it's a 59 caddy with a landau metor body, and it's a side loader.
he got it for $500.00 !!! it runs, but needs brakes and the interior uppholstery is pretty much shot. all of the original hearse stuff is there on the inside tho.
as you see it here, is they way it's been sitting for the past 5-6 years.
he keeps telling me that he's going to get it driveable again, but he's been saying that for about 6 years now....lol.
the pics aren't the greatest because it's crammed in a tiny 1 car garage and these were the best pics he could get without pulling it outside. he's a tad lazy....lol
he says that the car is haunted and he's afraid to work on it.

My 62 Cadillac Eureka Landau 3-way, same as carried Marilyn Monroe, currently resides somewhere in Misouri. I bought it sight unseen off this board.

A flyer with the 1965 superior coach works funeral coach my daughter now owns. former owners were a band called The Makers and toured the US and Canada in it for some time. We are currently gathering parts to put it back on the road as they blew it [IMG]up and we bought it sans engine.

Well,im HEAVILY into customs and rods (trad style) but i do really love hearses too..and livin in Mexico i have the luck to find em all the time....
They ARE customs, all the way....the coachbuilders were crafting the whole body and pretty much everything else above the chassis alone....and they came inmany different configurations that makes em pretty interesting..

Somebody post a pics of my Caddy 42 Cathedral hearse on this thread, but pics gices no justice at all..jump on my mexican junk thread to check it out that unrestored thing and more ...

Recently im heavily into findin more hearse and in short time i found some of em....have leads for more which i try to have pics of course...

Right now im puttin for sale a 59 Caddy Superior hearse i just found..a running project but car is very good conds..check it out!!

Got TONS of pics but my SD card size is just a little bigger than the allowed, can't post pix here...or if somebody is wiling to help gladly will send em to show them...Sled

Is a hearse longer than a 4 door?

Generally speaking, without taking coach builder or year into account - yes. Commercial chassis were longer.

Some companies from the '40-'70s focused on 'short wheelbase' coaches which would have been the same as a 4 door. Then there was that whole Cadillac downsizing thing in the late '70s.

  29. Here is a pic of my old Buick hearse I had way back in about 1970.
I think from memory it was a '37.

    Sorry about the pic quality.
Photography was not my best skill back then.

    :)
