So, me and a friend go looking for a blanket to recover my seat bottoms and back, and some matching carpet today.......
i go to this place called "Ollies" (there motto is "Good stuff Cheap") anyway i find this "Persian Rug" with a price tag of $1895.00, after me and my buddy get a good laugh, i take it up front to ask how much, after much discussion is cost me $19.99....... but they didn't have any carpet that matched.
the car is currently maroon and i'm debating between dark brown and tan carpet, any thoughts?

this price tag is real, the other side states it's a hand made persian rug. seems alittle high to me, even for retail. but does makes a good story........

Tan...dark colors tend to close up an interior...

My wife DD has tan carpet. It's a pain to keep clean.

  6. The flying carpet must not be working, hence the good deal.

well, spent another $15 on some 3M spray glue and velcro.....
and broke out the great granny's sewing machine, cut up a few old pair of pants.....(jeesh..... that makes me sounds cheap)
so i glue'd it all down very well, next i'm going to hand sew all the seams on the back and attach some velco, hopefully this will keep the "flying carpet" fabric from moving around.

What about some tan rubber mat, easy to care for and very durable? And as always black carpet goes with everything!! Nice job with the seat!!~Sololobo~

If you are not set on carpet I like the rubber mat idea previously mentioned. You can always change it if you do not like it and put carpet in later. the door panels are looking cool and so is the wood top edges. Keep the pics coming!

  13. Hmm, I have a very good friend who collects those old Persian rugs and they really are worth that kind of crazy money, even the ones that are worn and tattered. Looks cool as hell but you mighta missed an opportunity there for some extra bucks. Just make sure you keep the price tag to show folks that ain't just no Mexican blanket upholsetry job:cool:

I had the thought, i did lay the carpet on my floor for a few day thinking about ebaying or re-selling it........(i decided to not even see what similiar rug go for, AND i don't want anyone telling me either )

i did sew the price tag to the bottom of the seat, I think this car may be up for sale in years to come. and it also makes for a nice story also..........

(EDIT: I posted the auction prices for the rug then realized you didnd't wanna hear it...well I'll say this you bought that thing well but you wouldn't have been retiring on the money you made selling it on the 'bay either, so cut away guilt free! :D )

Good for you for doing it yourself. Lord only knows what a shop would get for that!

FWIW I use the DAP Landau top adhesive that comes in a gallon paint can size for around $25....gets you high and will hold anything together upholstery wise I reckon.

I'm wiht you, I can't match colors for nothing that's why I gotta ask for help on that stuff myself!

    Thanks for the pics!

I sense a new hot rod style coming into fashion: the Arabian rod. Instead of orcabetties, we'll have chicks running around hot rod shows wearing burqas. All your instrument lettering must be in Farsi script.

Seriously, though, nice job. Especially with the wood slats around the top.

Match the curtains? thats pretty good too, but not as funny as matching my handbag....... I guess with these crazy looking seats i'm asking for it.

I like to be different or unique with my builds, but the "fliing carpet" is pretty far out there even for me. still haven't found carpet i want, i'm trying to find brown indoor outdoor (it don't frey when cut) but no luck yet.......

here's acouple from last night, i stained the wood with home interior stain. and covered with a "satin" indoor/outdoor poly something.

also put a couple coats of stain quard on the "fliing carpet" pieces...

funny how it's the little things that can make a big difference, when i put the "****ons" on the seat(and back) cushions it really gave it a much more professional look.

so i put it together after work (it was mostly dry).....

well, I'm off to try and find some cheap good carpet.......going to a different "Ollies"..

so it's all held in place with "velcro", i'll make it more permanent when i decide how to finish the door panels....

so i finally found some carpet, actual got it from Home Depot.
it's only cut and pieced together with tape and glue in the pictures, i'm going to take out and sew seams and bind some of the edges at the door seams.
also the seat supports are wood, i'm planning to remake out of metal or cover with carpet. and find some brown seatbelts hopefully.

i think it kind of has a 70's look, maybe it's the wood i'm not sure.
    well time to start sewing..........

I just opened up thus thread and was going to suggest a "rust" colored carpet, but that brown looks great!

  26. I was goin' to go against the grain here and say a darker carpet just for the ease of maintenance. That you got looks great .. You goin' to put anything over that aluminum on the doors?

I really think you should paint that aluminum door panel the color of the dash...the aluminum just makes all that nice warm interior suddenly seem sterile...I love the wood tub top though, and it should weather quite nicely...

Looks great. I too would paint the aluminum door panels after seeing it all together.

The wood is especially nice, I've been contemplating that for my tub and you may have just answered the question for me.
