I don't have a clue what I'm going to do with this but I had to get it. I found a 57 coupe deville for a buddy way out in the boonies in KY and I agreed to haul it back for him. When we pulled up the caddy was in the garage and this was hiding under a tarp in the yard. We actually had to ford a stream to get to this Lincoln, no pun intended...Its a 47 Continental which was converted in the 50's to a 53 331 cad motor, and using an adapter the original 3 speed/OD was retained. It still has the push ****on doors, radio, hood ornament, etc all in a box. One of only 831 made that year so its begging to be Kustomized It has solid floors, etc, but they used some type of early unit body style frame with outriggers and boxed rockers that has some trouble spots. Otherwise, suspension is similar to 48 Ford with tranverse springs, etc... On the way back we p***ed "Lying Lee's Used Cars" in Morehead Ky which has a lot of semi restored cars and projects. Here's a few, all for sale. The olds is a 4bbl V-8, 3 speed car but really rusty!!
Good old Lying Lees's with at least two locations to serve you in Kentucky Morehead is a great college town Jim
From the looks of the neighborhood, yo were lucky not to have heard banjo music. I bet the blue Mopar in pic 2 had orange paint and a 01 on the doors under that blue.... Just funning. That Hot Rod Lincoln loos like great custom fodder.
Funny scrolling thru the pix and I see the "Worthington" tractor........I have been told that they were built with 32' Ford parts and there is alot of stuff on them that is interchangeable. Chris Oh yea, because I have to ask is the "Worthington" forsale?
I live only a few miles from Lying Lee's. Wish I had known you guys were going to be around, we'd have shown some hospitality and entertained y'all. I don't play banjo though.
Sure does! Two years ago we went to Nashville TN to pick up the '35 Dodge axle and springs for the Fordillac project. It was about this time of year, nasty, cold here, we drove into spring, daffodils blooming, leaves coming out on the trees. Had a fun weekend, went to the 'Opry, hung out downtown, had a great time! Do it!
Yeah, there was a lot of fodder for hillbilly jokes, but it wasn't too scary. Everybody was so friendly, they kept telling me what a pretty mouth I had. Guess all those trips to the dentist paid off! And my buddy with the plumbers crack was real popular. He kept finding quarters on the ground. Those poor fellers must have had holes in their pockets, they kept having to reach in and hold onto their change Everything at Lee's was for sale that wasn't nailed down. Its a small world that we were 200 miles from home and right close to another Hamb'er Spent the evening tinkering on the Lincoln and it isn't really as bad as it looks. I already have it running and moving under its own power. I have a few ideas for the body but am not sure how far I want to go with modifications. Any suggestions? Will post more pics after I clean it out...
Pickd a 69 camaro up out there in the sticks...trailer house was on probably 6 ft of cinderblock on one side. Kinda scary out there in the middle of i gave it to my sister and you sure do gotta purty mouth.
Looks alot like some of our road trips here in the Mo. Ozarks Susan Logs most of them & puts them in our Barn find journal
ah missed oppurtunity, they could have grabbed that motor/trans from you and took it to dayton where it would be picked up
I know a guy that knows where there is an individual just over the border in Tenn, that have a yard full of flatheads. One semi truck full and many more on the property. Too bad I didnt go with him to get his motor cause we dont talk anymore. Maybe someone in Tenn may know. The guy that built the rat rod truck that billy Gibbons bought out here, he knows too.
How could I have forgotten the Bible & Tire shop!! I hate to make fun of someone's convictions but that's just not a normal combination. That was good for at least an hour of jokes.... 'try our new holy roller radial, available in 235-75-John 3:16, guaranteed not to go flat but watch out for nails and spears....Great traction, practically floats on water' 'Even Peter can't deny our great deals...' BTW, got the Lincoln running and moving under its own power, even the brakes came back to life...
I know it's odd. But he has decent prices on tires. I bought a set of tires with inch and a half white walls there a few years back, fifty bucks a tire. I'm still trying to figure out where that holler ( <- correct spelling BTW ) is in the picture. Looks familiar as hell. I was at Lying Lee's yesterday to check on a car for one of the HAMBers that saw this thread. They were talking about seeing you all come through with the Lincoln on the trailer.
Hot Damn! Just goes to show ya what can be found in places other than ebay! I love cruising back country, there are always cars to be found!
Its actually pretty close, a couple miles up 60 on May Rd. Its actually named after the guy's family way back when. He's still got a few newer cars for sale, including an amateur restored 54 Cad convertible for 30k
Carter County is a step back in time. I'll be down there on the 1st for a meeting. Maybe we can run up some of those hollers John? I'll bring the gun and you bring the shine.
I can't bring the shine, Taco takes care of that, well him or Eddie. They both love that Apple Pie ya know.
