Just want to thanks everyone who has shared their pics, videos, and memories to this thread so far - as a racing fan who grew up at Shangri-La and sometimes Oswego with a long memory but unfortunately few pics from back in the day, I'll add what I can when I can.

Fantastic stuff, guys, brings back memories of watching the "Hardtops" race in Auburn, CA when I was a kid...Sleepy Stevens, O C Taylor, Vic Hucklebee...One driver had a "chicken light" on the roof that lit up when he matted the gas pedal, so you could tell when he lifted... thanks for all the great pics!

  3. wow thanks Bakes for all the info, keep adding input, you really made my day! I've never seen Jean-Guy's super mod, that thing is a beast. I also liked the Jim Shampine supermod I posted awhile ago. Keep looking at the pages and adding input, it's awesome to read the stories. I wasn't born when most of them were taken, but grew up around the track and hot rods! ok Photo time!!!

1972 at Lancaster (NY) Speedway: Tommy Leeson (97) and Cam Gagliardi (54) lead Gordie Treichler (47) and Richie Evans (61). Gordon Reinig photo. Look at the stances of the drivers: Leeson is leaning hard, Cam is straining forward in the belts and Gordie looks relaxed and upright.

Kenny Meahl at Lancaster (NY) Speedway, 1969. Gordon Reinig photo. (This car was then sold to Phil Edwards, who painted over part of the 8 to make the car's number "2 cents.")

Kenny Meahl use to come down to Reading to race in the early spinng. They would stay over night in the Harrisburg area and then race Saturday nights at Selinsgrove Speedway aganst the "Bugs"

  13. great stuff Dr. John. I'm leaving off where I left off, I know there some older Long Islanders here and who doesn't love old race cars, even if there not modifieds. Figure 8 at Islip Speedway.

Sal Accardi Sr. racing Tiger Tom Baldwin. His son runs TBR racing and made Daytona with Scott Riggs in a team put together in 37 days. Martin Truex Jr. crew Chief Kevin "Bono" owns a modified and races when the Cup schedule can, like at New Hampshire. Speedweeks at New Syrnma in a Tom Bladwin tribute car 7ny, Ryan Newman sat behind the wheel and took down a win out of three races.

Looks like a 1966 or 67 Oldsmobile....not too common on the oval tracks.
