Where was I in 62? I still had 5 years to go before I would be born. The car I drive now wouldn't be built for another year. First saw AG in about 74, I remember it clear as a bell, it was a Monday night movie of the week. I watched it on our B&W 19" tv. I credit that movie for making me the gearhead I am today. I would easily say it is my all time favorite movie. Next would be all 3 Mad Max movies. Yes I was (and still am) a big "Dukes" fan too.

Check out "The Lively Set". Opening scene is a race through town with James Darren's channeled A Roadster and a T bucket (Ivo's??). Footage of the Chrysler Turbine car later on in. All that AND Pamela Tiffin.

1979 made for TV movie called "HotRod". You can get the DVD from the vendor that hits all the swap meets and car shows. I was just out of high school and always lusted for a Willys. Last year, I bought a 50 Olds that was in the movie and raced the Willys during eliminations. That car is just finished and now my next project is an all steel Willys. Hope the bank account can handle it! But what a crappy movie. Where were the technical advisors? At least I don't have to worry about doing the Willys to match the movie. I think there were at least three different cars used. One is known today. It is all done up in Yellow and still races. Too bad he changed it.

'FJ Holden','The yellow FJ' or 'THE FJ Holden' the movie, was OZ in true life in the 70's with real Street racing scenes used in the movie. Including the star car which was a typical hot FJ of the times , not just a made up movie prop. It was Filmed not too far from where I was living at the time over at Bankstown in Sydney. Many old time rodders and car people in general met at the "brickies' for some actual racing as the only drag strip in the whole state had been closed for years.

Well, I just skimmed through this whole thread, and unless I missed it, no one mentioned "Smokey & the Bandit". I know, not a hot rod or a hot rod movie, but definitely had some fun chase scenes !

Does this car still exist? If so is it in a museum? I found these photos a while back with the Daytona from Joe Dirt so I assume the answer is yes.

  10. What about these?

Fireball 500 SSXR was bought by a guy in Canada. He was showing it last year. I think it was in a museum in Kansas for a while, sold in the Northwest and now in Canada. (I think the original movie paint job was better than how it was shown after the movie) I was surprised it was repainted.

Dodge Thunder Charger (I liked the original movie paint better than this. It was a red, white and blue scheme). Does this car still exist?

Elvis' Corvette in Clambake. Is it still around?

not Hot Rod, but a REALLY BAD car movie: Eat My Dust (1976) starring Ron Howard. Almost as bad as Roadhouse.

Those two cars aren't the same. The Dodge Thunder Charger appears to be drived from the 66/67 dodge Charger, the second car, the Fireball 500 appears to be derived from a mid 60's Barracuda.....I think

Bullitt is available on Blue Ray, my dad forced me to watch the car chase again last week when I was visiting. I'm pretty sure the neighbors heard it, he blasts it on his surround sound every time. He swears it is the best car chase ever filmed.

Check out "The Junk Man" made by the guy who made the original "Gone in 60 Seconds." If my memory serves me correctly he was killed doing one of the stunts in this movie.

It's not a hot rod movie, but more of a smash 'em up muscle car movie. They jump a car into a low flying helicoptor, it's pretty fun to watch.

I didn't see it mentioned, but one of my favorites is "Redline 7000",yes it's hokey, and no, it's not even close to realistic, but if you're a car fan, it rocks! Shelby Mustangs, Galaxie 500 stockers running at ASCOT, and how about (I think) Doug McClure using a Shelby Daytona Cobra coupe as his street car?? I like how him and the sweet young thing riding with him in the Daytona are talking in normal tones! I've heard those things run and I can promise you, they are very, very loud and not something you'd be chatting inside of. Also, "King of the Mountain" has the best race scenes I've ever seen and has made me want to head down Mulholland ever since.

Oh and as for the AG argument . I wasnt even a twinkle in my old mans eye in 62 , But when i first saw that movie somewhere around 86 , i called the oldies station Litterally every day at 5 oclock and requested Green Onions by booker t and the MG's , it got to the point to where the dj would start the show off by saying , " and Heres Green Onions For Mac"

  19. Bobby,

Yes, You are correct, they are not the same car.

The Fireball 500 is a 1965/1966 Plymouth Barracuda and the Thunder Charger is a 1966/1967 Dodge Charger.

I was wondering if any of them were still around. I know the Fireball is in Canada. For a while there was a video on it and an interview with the new owner and George Barris.

I don't think I've seen in mentioned in this thread but another great car movie is "Its a Mad Mad Mad Mad Mad World" The whole movie is one long slapstick car chase and stars just about everybody....

I like the part where he sprays the bad guys with a gun loaded with (I assume) candy apple red. Not to nit-pick, but first he totally repainted the car in ONE NIGHT!!, so the gun would've had clear in it, since that's the last thing you shoot. I know, I just suck the fun right out of movies...

  27. Not really a hotrod movie but has some cool car's and it is a funny ass movie. ...... Book of love. Starring Chris Young. It came out in 1990 I beleive.

I dont know if it had "hot rod related scrips" but 1955's Running Wild has the Hirohata Merc in it as well as some other nice cars.
