Rac Tach, my first piece of Hot Rod gear!

I was thinking the other day about what my first piece of Speed Equipment was---It didn't make my old stovebolt go any faster, but it sure looked cool on my steering column

What was your 1st Piece of Speed  Equipment ?????

A Hurst aluminum fist grip shift knob, pulled out of a junker and stuck onto my early '70's Duster w/ a 225 slant and 3 speed.

Yeah, made it go a lot faster! :D

    Later, Kinky6

my first speed part was an intake and q-jet i put on a 1969 327, it was in a chevy biscayne 4 door i bought off my dad for $100, i had just turned 15 and had to get my dad to test drive the car, i'd say come on dad giver, lol. i remember the lock out was still on the carb and it didnt always alow the 4's to kick in, i know better now, that was 35 years ago.

An exhaust cut-out and plug pipe for my first car, a 52 Ford Customline with "Mileage Maker 6" under the hood. It didn't make much difference either, but it was lots of fun! Made lots of noise too...

A Hurst Syncro-Loc shifter for my '57 Chevy in high school. It was still a 235 at that point, but I could hammer it through the gears and get a small bit of second gear rubber! By the way, the second piece of speed equipment was an Offenhauser three carb intake bolted to a '53-'54 Corvette dual exhaust manifold for the high roller sum of $20.00.

When I was 18 (1974) I had saved up $1200 to buy my brothers 1970 Nova SS which he had bought new. It was 100% original with low miles. The first night I had it I put a RAC tach on the column and an under dash RAC water/oil gauge set in it along with a White Hurst T-Handle on the Muncie shifter..then..got my first speeding ticket that night coming home from the Local "Shoneys" hangout....bummer !!

When I was 13 one of my uncles sold me a '35 Ford 5W for $17.50. First thing I bought for it was a set of used Evans aluminum heads from Ford Obsolete in Hollywood. That was in 1958. I sold the car two years later for $50.00 and thought I had made a killing. The FOGGER

Edelbrock Torker manifold and a Holley 780 on my 69 GTO Judge in 1978.

went out cruisin that night with no hood and the hinges sticking up and a velocity stack on that new Holley. I was so cool back then.

1964 or 1965 I bought hedman headers, hurst shifter and cheater slicks for my 57 chevrolet 2 door sedan. it originally was a 6 cylinder 3 speed standard, i swapped a 265 V8 in it. i was in 10th grade high school , nive black and silver 57 from winchester virginia, paid $75.00 for the car. it was a preachers fathers car, he drove it from va. to new york and i bought it after it had sat next to his church for only 15 minutes, with the for sale sign on it. bought the 265 off a stock car guy in town. that baby ran, not sure what had been done to the engine, I remember he had pinned the rocker studs and I beat the hell out of it. ended up selling the engine and tranny for a bunch of money. then sold the body for a bunch more. and bought a 63 chevrolet convertible with the money. cadillac dave
