Charleston, WV Car Show 2009. Dennis Gauge on location filming his TV show My Classic Car. Being a HAMB BONE I had to represent; check out the HAMB T-Shirt I'm wearing. I bought it at the Cinematic.

That's cool, how was Dennis in person? Seems like he'd be a cool laid back guy.

He was cool my buddy Brian is a barber in our hometown. We told Dennis we wanted to take a picture of him for the old fashioned barber shop. He was cool about it and reached in his pocket and gave us My Classic Car stickers. It was weird we were just walking along and we spotted him.

Dennis is a cool guy. He did an episode on me and my Desoto, then another of my dad and his roadster (El Tiki) at the Newport HillClimb... also dated his daughter for a few weeks, she's pretty cool too.

Does he still carry that industrial sized tub of Purell hand sanitizer with him?

I saw him at Mopars With Big Daddy at Garlit's museum a few years ago, and he had a giant tub of that stuff with him!

Seemed like a nice guy though....but he can't possibly have any fingerprints left on him!

11. I had my '34 5-window at The Boulevard Rod Run & Doo Wop Show. Dennis stopped by a chatted for a minute. Said he liked the Dove grey color and 4-speed! He seemed like a genuinely nice guy. Check out the show's website at: www.charlestonwvcarshow.com. Over 700 cars, beautiful weather and a cool location for the show along the river.

Not to hijack this thread, but did anyone else here know that Dennis' likeness is the one used on the pringles can?

No joke, google it if you do not believe me! He invented them! What a resourceful guy.

Beginnings

Pringles were first sold in the United States, in October of 1968; they were not rolled out across America until the mid-1970s.[2] They were originally known as, "Pringle's Newfangled Potato Chips," but the name was changed for introduction to the national market. Procter & Gamble chose the "Pringles" name from a Cincinnati telephone book, selecting Pringle Drive in Finneytown, Ohio, for its pleasing sound.[3] The original Pringles television commercials were written, produced and directed by Thomas Scott Cadden (composer of the original Mr. Clean Jingle), in 1968, while working at Tatham-Laird and Kudner Advertising Agency in Chicago.
According to the patent, Pringles were invented by Chelsea Denman of Washington, Pennsylvania.[4] Science-fiction-and-fantasy author Gene Wolfe developed the machine that cooks them.[5]

He attended the University of Idaho, from which he received a Ph.D. in chemistry. While there, Dennis became an avid climber and winter mountaineer. He also finally married his high school sweetheart, Ellen.
Dennis accepted position as a product development scientist at The Procter & Gamble Company in Cincinnati, Ohio. There he either worked on, or created, most of P&G's food products in the 80's, including Pringles, with which he bears a striking resemblance to the handlebar mustachioed character on the can. Dennis holds a number of patents on P&G products. Once again having some disposable income, Dennis got back to playing with classic cars. This is also where he and Ellen had their three children.
After 10 years at P&G, Dennis took a position as Director of Product Development at a Bristol-Myers Squibb company in Evansville, Indiana where he led the development of Boost Nutritional Energy Drink, among other products. This is where he met Brad Kimmel, founder of Bradley David Productions, Inc. and creator of My Classic Car.

21. The Pringles inventor dies a few months ago, BTW. It WAS in the news...from the Cincinnati newspaper...and NOT Wikipedia, which is nearly always wrong!

Jun 2nd, 2008 | CINCINNATI -- The man who designed the Pringles potato crisp packaging system was so proud of his accomplishment that a portion of his ashes has been buried in one of the iconic cans.

Fredric J. Baur, of Cincinnati, died May 4 at Vitas Hospice in Cincinnati, his family said. He was 89.

Baur's children said they honored his request to bury him in one of the cans by placing part of his cremated remains in a Pringles container in his grave in suburban Springfield Township. The rest of his remains were placed in an urn buried along with the can, with some placed in another urn and given to a grandson, said Baur's daughter, Linda Baur of Diamondhead, Miss.

Baur requested the burial arrangement because he was proud of his design of the Pringles container, a son, Lawrence Baur of Stevensville, Mich., said Monday.

Baur was an organic chemist and food storage technician who specialized in research and development and quality control for Cincinnati-based Procter & Gamble Co.

Baur filed for a patent for the tubular Pringles container and for the method of packaging the curved, stacked chips in the container in 1966, and it was granted in 1970, P&G archivist Ed Rider said.

Baur retired from P&G in the early 1980s.

I met Dennis at Speedweek in 2006 or 2007. He flagged me down in the pits and wanted to use my 29 coupster for the ending of the Speedweek show he was doing. He drove off into the distance in my car with a camera guy hanging out of their van. They returned about 20 minutes later, he thanked me, I got my car back and that was that. Nice guy. I have never seen his speedweek program. Does anyone know if he used my 29 coupster, 322 Buick, 6X2 intake, black primer paint, for the closing of that show? If so maybe I'll buy a video from him. I don't want to spend $60 to find out he didn't use the car. Thanks

DefianceB, interesting topic and great start. Everyone else, wandering a bit off topic? If this is six degrees of seperation, when does Kevin Bacon show up?
