How about welding up an interesting trellis out of some odd pieces. maybe a couple of wires that are too far gone to be usable and who knows what. Make it interesting and artsy but don't have any real cash in it and drift by and ask about the banjo again and then offer a trade. Sometimes you can trade for something you can't buy with cash.

Anybody know any tractor restorers? Just wondering if this is an automobile specialty, or is it a generic thing that includes tractors, motorcycles, etc.

  4. Yip,
Got two of them who are within a couple miles of me. They take those things as seriously as other people do cars.

I must have missed the part where you reached for your wallet and told him what you thought it was worth.

  7. A bajo rear with radius arms is a beautiful thing. The quality of the parts, the pride in designing them and the wonderful industrial lines. Why WOULDN'T he want to use it? It's a criin shame, but good design is good design. Think of a photo or painting showing flowering vines laced over some old farm machinery. He may have that kind of taste. Maybe a complete rear that has gotten more "character" from mother nature could be traded. He wouldn't care abour a broken axle or trashed gears.
Many greens even understand restoration or modification hobbies as they often have a history that gives them the appreciation of old stuff.
Maybe stiking up a conversation of shared interest like power conservation or nighborhood beautification or maybe simple junk 'reuse' could get the guy to loosen up on the part. He may even have skills to share. He may like to have skills shared with him.
Oh well, I'm gonna stop and go listen to some buddy Guy so this Kumbya crap goes away.

    HAHAHAHA!! That's fucking classic.

Sorry about that. If I had a nickle for every time something similar has happened to me, well, I'd have enough to buy you a Coke.

That's a GREAT idea... just make it tasteful with a similar mystique.
