Rusted Rat, I am sure that if it's in good enough shape to become road worthy then it's surely got enough life left in it to become what ever you want. Spend some time using the search function and you will see that the people here are bringing back even the unlikeliest candidates back form the dead.

I am no master builder but I am sure that the people here will give you the knowledge to bring out the cars fullest potential. The word rat rod may throw some flak your way but don't let that discourage you. We all have to start somewhere just make sure you have some thick skin while pushing through. I think that after a couple weeks you will probably change you mind about calling it a RR and see that you can to own a real traditional hot rod that makes people rubber neck the **** out of it. Welcome and let's see some pics.

    Welcome.....and HOLD ON!!!

I am also building a "RR" Model A fordor (I'm FNA from that "OTHER" site)

If you actually think about...most high end custom's,hotrods....ect all starterd life as a RAT ROD.

Someone finds an old body...but does 100's of hours of body works vs. the minimal amount the a RR'er will do.

We both may get a motor from a junkyard....the RR'er will do what is needed to make it running and reliable vs. a MULTI thousand dollar all billet engine that may be found in a custom....ect

In all....we are all the same...just at different levels.... some refine their projects into beautiful works of art that simply become jaw dropping when you see them.....as for the RR builders....we just see things differently.

I personally would not mind having a beautiful custom...ect ...but..that is not in my budget..I want to have to have a HOT-ROD of some type and a RR type vehicle fits my wallet perfectly! That's all I can afford. My RR will be safe, reliable, fun and a headturner for about $4500.

I'm just glad to see cars getting pulled from fields, barns and backyards. Just think.....todays rat rod could be sold to someone who turns it into high dollar custom! "THAT" car may of never had a chance if it wasn't for some RR builder giving it a heartbeat!

Here are a couple pics of MY project from a few weeks back.

    1930 Model A FORDOR
454 "RAT" motor backed by a M21 Muncie 4 speed
Ford 8.8 rear from a Econoline van
Disc brakes on the front axle/Drums on the rear
oh..the list goes on...but you get the point!

Did he describe a RR or the foundation for a cool hot rod.
Sounded like he had some good stuff on the car. Just needed the
    Labor effort put into it.

  24. MrCool you are en***led to your opinions, they belong on another site, but this site is not for this kind ******** you belive. Did the other site that you mentioned not serve you well? This post is spewing ******** on a site dedicated to spreading the gospel of traditional hot rodding. You are speaking for yourself only and showing your basic contempt for others who have made this site what it is.
Here is a hint about what you do
This is a rat rod......... This is a rat rodder......... These are rats.

So......What is this site for??? Why do my opinions bother all of you??? Why do they belong on another site??? Did I hit a sore spot??...... RAT RODS really bother folk on here??? WHY?

What the hell is a HOKEY ***??? I just looked up the word HOKEY and got : Phony and obviously contrive. Kinda explains a few members on here.

Jalopy..: an old, decrepit and unreliable automobile which has limited mechanical abilities, and at times can barely move. A jalopy is not a well kept car, but a car which is mostly rundown or beaten up.

It sounds like most of YOU are on the wrong site!

I would have thought that hot rodding of a vehicle to perform better, brake better and look better (to the owners view) would be considered hot rodding...guess not around here.

Why do you want to "replicate" a car era?? I can understand doing a restoration...but why would someone spend their time and money "copying" what has already been done?? When does the creative side of hot rodding come into play if you are just copying?? Could it be so you can say you have a "TRADITIONAL HOT ROD" that you JUST BUILT?? Isn't that an oxy-*****? You guys are very confusing!

Lets look at some definitions from WIKIPEDIA shall we...

    • Hot rods are typically American cars with large engines modified for linear speed
    • Street Rods (These are a very popular branch of 'hot rodding'. Contrary to the implications of the term hot rod, street rods are a peculiar mix of hot rods, custom cars, and modern Detroit cars. Emphasis is on high end custom paint jobs, luxury leather interiors with all the ammenities, modern engines and running gear. They are actually far removed from the power-is-everything genesis of cl***ic hot rods. In fact, many of these cars have difficulty making their tires churp, let alone generate billows of smoke when the drivers 'show off' their power.)
    • Pro-Street Rods (a branch of street rodding featuring mildly customized sedan and coupe models that one would not normally ***ociate with hot rodding that have monster engines and huge rear tires inside the fender wells. They retain all the other luxury features of Street Rods.)
    • Billet Rods (street rods noted by many items being machined from Billet aluminum)
    • Traditional Rods (those that built according to a particular point in time and stick to those build techniques and materials),
    • Rat rods (those that are pieced together to look like old time jalopies, although some times they require more work than a show rod),
    • Show Rods (Hot Rods created to compete in National Car Shows such as AMBR (America's Most Beautiful Roadster), and the Detroit Autorama).
Most of the "Rat Rods" I've seen show a ton of "personal" touch. Done to the builders own taste. I will also agree that some look like ****...and it may be those "bad apples" that spoiled the whole "RAT ROD" cl***ification.

Why is it at many car shows, cruise nights...ect...when a rat rod pulls in...everyone flocks to them?? Is this why so many people on this site don't like them??? a $5000 rat rod is getting more attention that your 100K one??

Now...you will notice that 9 (if not more) out of every 10 NON-RAT ROD car owner at a car show will say that a rat rod is a piece of **** and does not even belong next to their car......now sit back and listen to the spectators at that same show when they come up to a rat rod....you will get a lot of "NOW THATS A REAL HOT ROD" coming from their mouths. HMMMMMMM....

I'm building my car to my taste. It is a HOT ROD and always will be.

Wtf. Lets not loose sight of what's important here...

If you're a true rodder lets embrace the fng.
