Those low-riders are REALLY serious about their bombs

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by blackp-15coupe, Feb 25, 2009.

  1. 'Watched the newest episode of "Livin The Lowlife" last nite on Speed. Part of the show was about guys going to look for/buy parts at a swapmeet. One guy's in search of an OEM accessory comp*** for his '42 Chevy Fleetline (an this car is awesome), ends up getting one for $3k (talked seller down from $3500). The other guy finds/buys a rearview mirror with clock for $700 (seller wanted $800).
All I can say is that these guys are crazy serious & I have a whole new appreciation for what they're doing and what they go thru to make those cars so cool.

  2. I watched it too and was blown away by the dough they were spending...I can't believe somebody would pay that kind of money for a comp*** but it was on tv so it absolutely must be true...

I saw the show also. Pretty crazy man. Must be nice to have cash like that for a little tan comp***, or a clock mirror...Makes you wonder if you ever p***ed one at a swap meet or flea market, and couldve got it for like 20 bucks...

I was amazed by that too! I guess I'll be looking a little harder at swap meets for stuff I can resell instead of just stuff I want.

Lots of guys do the same to create a period-perfect hotrod, right? If I understand correctly, accessory items are what makes or breaks a bomba.

Yea, for the most part. My bomb doesn't have a bunch of accessories, but I still have a few. Some bombs go overboard, and over accessorize. To me, theres a point at which too many becomes gaudy.

Nice paint job is also important when dealing with a bomb. It has to look as if it was 1948 all over again.

    Rad Chevy, Michelle!

It takes a lot of work, essentially they restore the car forst to 100% Factory stock and then accesorse and lower it. I love bombs, and someday I'd love to build one, but for the time being thats not something thats a financial possibility!

Yea, totally understand the finances thing. My bomb is why I don't have any money. I am, how you say, car poor. But, I guess that's better than being real poor; or maybe I'm real poor because, I'm car rich. :D

those cars are amazing to say the least.

dont hate on what they spend for that stuff....ever see what a set of kinmont brakes go for? How about a pines winter grille for a 32?? Or even Ardun heads........they are spending pennies compared to what some of hot roddings rare speed parts go for.

That's a little unfair to make a judgement about a persons dedication to their car over their family.

Most bomba guys I know are EXTREME family men. Ever see a bunch of bomb guys at a show. I bet you see their wives and kids right next to them. More than I can say about the usual hot rod suasagefest.

Also, a lot of these bomb guys aren't flipping cars every year and starting new projects... and pouring new money into said new projects.... these guys hang on to rides for a long time and so they will take the time (and save the $$) to do it right.

My bro-in-law is a bomb guy with a 47 fleetline that he has had for about 30 years now. That cars has been "under construction" for about 10 years now. He has collected stuff for the car from accessories to every single piec of new chrome. Why has it taken 10 yrs... becuase he has put 3 great girls through private school and now through college.

I'm not calling you out arkihotrods... just clarifying the point that most BOMBA guys are very very family focused and that their rides are family ***ests and not just toys.

Michelle-you have a great looking car. I have a 48 fleetline coupe, but didn't even want to put the visor I had on it. I like 'em plain, maybe just some skirts. I don't always agree with some one's personal taste, but I am blown away by the "bombers" pursuit of their vision of perfection.

It is for those guys... super super serious and compe***ive about the accessories. They've driven the price of every accessory from tissue boxes to comp***es way up.

    Wow, are some Hambers jeleaous???????

I'm betting those guys worked very hard to earn that money to buy those accessories to make their rides what they are. Lowrider guy's have always been impressive to me, they do more modifications to there cars than almost anyone and have ridiculous attention to detail.

  26. You can bet when I,m parting out a car I,m looking to see what accessories are on it.**** like a dash fan marked GM in a 47 Chevy can bring good bucks....

GOOK WAGONS exist in the lowrider world too.... a car doesnt need to be *****d up to get attention. there is a point where it becomes too much, but then again, if a person wants a bunch of gimmicks on their ride, who am i to tell them different?
