Good Ole E'town, many memories past and many more to come. I went to tons of races there from the mid 70's to present and alway dreamed of winning at E'town. finnaly got it done at the Old Tyme Drags in 99 and again in 05. My son won his first Jr. Dragster race there in May 08. Getting ready for the start of my little guys 3rd season in Jr. Dragsters running the points series there. We just love that track.
Here is a shot of Barry Payne's '68 Baldwin 427, Jenkins built, Camaro in front of the Wheatley's shop. The building was part of their father's trucking company. It sure was not a show place, but lots of fun was had there and some good cars ran out of the shop. I bought the '55 N/SA Sedan Delivery, don't know where the '57 went, and the boys built this '68 Camaro for SS/D and AHRA GT-1. They later bought Brad Watkins '69 G/S Camaro and put the drive train from the '68 in it and ran GT-1. While they were running the '69, they bought a new 1970 Camaro (307, 3 speed) and sterted bui8lding it for Pro Stock. It had a Jenkins 427, Dana 60 with Chrysler super stock springs and a supet T-10. The car was never raced. I took this photo for them to use in a 'for sale" ad in National Dragster. Buck told me "when I sell this car I'm going to buy me an Eldorado, a fur coat, big hat and a gold necklass." They later were involved with Eddie Thomas' ex-Landy SS/EA Charger and A/MP Baracuda.
I have been searching out in my barn for things relating to this era. I found a copy of material about "Racing the Hydro" that has a lot of information about modifying the dual range hydro for street or strip. I am guessing this is 100 pages and my copy doesn't have great pictures, but the text is certainly good. I'm not interested in making a zillion copies, but if a few of you would truly use this information to keep this great old trans alive I will make you copies and mail to you NC. Just PM me with your name / address, and give me a week or so to make the copies.

Tom Longnecker @ Indy early 70's I believe Westfall and Westburg Vs Barry Poole Stan Fox Marv Ripes Dan Kyle Dick Butler Not sure who the division 1 and 2 cars are. I'm sure you guys know. Nobody has mentioned the Dick Hickernell, Sperry and Bolton 57 Wagon from Mendon,Oh. called the Wild Wild Wagon. They were runner up in class and the Nationals once and maybe won once, not sure and I think they held the recond for a brief time. Also Doug Filo from Dayton, OH had a 58 Chevy wagon called the Gate Job that I think also held a record for a short time. Just wondered if anyone had a pic or two of them. I know you fellows aren't that keen on the old division 3 cars but a few ran repectable on occasion.
Bill "Redman" Floyd has a whole album of Div 3 cars. Alot are from Edgewater. It has been posted here,...somewhere Bob Rice has them, I think.
Thanks for all of the 'new-to-this-thread' images Eddie and your excellent posts. I'll be sure to add those names ('bolded,' above) to our 'LIST.' I'm sure the guys here are very-interested in cars from ALL SEVEN NHRA Divisions, its just that (as colesy said) the Div I cars seemed to get a bit more 'ink' back then. Guess it figures though, given the shops/builders in the division ... Duffys, Jenkins, Truppi/Kling, Jarrell, Wheatley Bros. etc.
I can't remember. That was a few years ago. I did have some of the names on the back of the photos but it was mostly of the local heros that we would go to Indy to see. I remember sitting there and watching those 55, 56 and 57 Chevys for what seemed like all day, I wanted to watch the Fords and there were very few of those. Jerry (Briar)and Don (Fuzzy)Long were a pair brothers from Celina OH that also ran well over at IRP, Jerry ran a 62 Chevy called Mr, 409 in stcok but Don ran modified. I think Don is still racing NHRA now and has went to stock eliminator. I've really enjoyed this thread, It's fun to see the pictures, articles and such. The fellows mentioned here were the kings of racing to me back then. The Gassers were more popular around my hometown area but for some reason the stockers caught my fancy too. There was another pair that had a 57 Chevy post car that ran really quick. It was Mick Sheets and Clark Weadock. They started by buying Filo's old car then built their own. That was about the time that Kenny Shaver (spelling?) from up around Findlay, OH built his 55 Chevy called The All American. Thanks for the kind words and carry on the good work.

Yeah, It was taken at Englishtown during the Summernationals. It's a real honor to be able to post up some of these old pictures and hear from the parties in the Pics. I was lucky enough to go east about 5 times to attend the races there and watch you guys race. Once for a first real date , once was on my honeymoon and the last time my daughter was born about nine months later. That was 20 years ago and I haven't been able to go back.

The paint scheme in the Indy shot is from 1970. In 1971, my father switched to the paint scheme in your shot. The 340 scheme was run for 71 only when he went to the 340/360 paint in '72. -Dave
Do you fellows have Al and Bev Provost on the list? Below is a picture from 1980 @ Bowling Green but he's races since about forever. I think he had the old 1960 Chevy call the Blue Tic and then the Blue Tic Too. Sorry if the picture is too recent.

Here's (recently added to our 'List') Jerry hallman in action. 'Fast Freddie' (Down South Racer) sent the image to me with this note ... "... Hallman was always a player in the jr. stocker wars with an assortment of Chevrolets running Waibel engines as a rule. Hodge had been runner up at the inaugural Gator Nats in his flying Olds. He being from northern Alabama he had a hot line to Racing Head Service and all their info. Now those were the days." ... I always wondered why there weren't MORE combinations of those 60/61 Chev 2 barrel 283 cars. For those two years, the 2B 283 was rated at just 170 HP!
