Whats the easiest way to take a car down to bare metal? I do not have enough constant air pressure to blast it and I cant imagine palm sanding that whole car. Tell me the secret. Please.

How nice do you want to keep the metal? A 36 grit disc on a big electric grinder does wonders for thick paint AS LONG AS YOU WATCH WHAT YOU'RE DOING... and 80 grit on a DA after that works nice too. Paint stripper works well if you dont have air.

Kwick strip from home depot spew can type, then scrape that off with a Razor blade. I took off 7 layers on my panel truck, took about 3 days and 2 boxes of blades but no damage to the metal.

Flat surfaces....3M strip disks smalle ones for your 4.5" angle grinder and BIG ones for your 9" buffer....makes short work of layers of paint and low heat

I hate stripper it hides in crevices and comes out later to eat your car alive. I swear by 3 or 4 inch cup brushes on a 4 1/2 angle grinder. fastest way without doing damage. Trust us old guys we really have been there done that. I should have said heavy duty i.e. twisted rope style cup brushes. Everyone else seems to be voting on strippers I really dont agree. I have seen to many bad results long term from them .on mine and other cars.

Use industrial stripper thay got it at menards. It may say aircraft stripper. I will find out . But any way it worked great. Use the stripper then get a 3m 6" bristle disc$50 but well worth it. I had my car stripped in a day. Just use rubber gloves cause the stripper burns like no tomorrow.

I have done 3 cars with aircraft stripper, gloves, lots of airc and a scrapper. After I was done To make sure I got all of it off I powered washed the car and then wiped it down with thinner and DA'd the whole thing So far no problems In my opinion it is probably the "cleanest' way to go

Shiny paint is never truly dry Dead paint under new will suck moisture right out of the new paint and kill the gloss in very short order. Taught that one by a painter friend tried it on a junker he is right. Forget the stripper. causes more proplems than it solves.
