  5. I missed this post first time around. Glad I saw it this time. The whole lobster and land speed thing has piqued my interest. I hope it don't fall the same weekend as the Drags. It would be cool to make both. Thanx for the info!

    Pontiac slim,
Wouldn't it be great to be able to have sam there and watch him run. There would be a few jaws dropping.

At Loring Air force base: Randy Holbrook's world record in the 1350 production cl*** is 205.658. The old record at Bonneville was 205.2.

Scott Guthrie Team broke its own world record of 250 by more than 10 miles an hour.

At 11:47 am, Sunday, August 2nd, Scott Guthrie was asked this question: "What do you think of the venue"?
He replied " We may very well skip Bonneville for the Loring Air force Base".

  13. Come on fellas, please don't start claiming new world records unless you get the SCTA to go to Loring AFB and certify the vehicles, co**** and times.

If you want to create your own Loring LSR records, like Maxton does, fine, just don't go down a road that will only lead you to a cliff.

On the positive side, congradulations on pulling your project together. I wish you all nothing but continued success.

I got an angry pm from a scta guy. I'm not trying to cause a problem with eather the scta guys or the Loring guys. I love the fact that we on the east coast are going fast and the west coast guys are pissed of. it works for me.

Just like Jesse James and his "Record" you can't compair Loring directly with either El Mirage (SCTA Records) or Bonneville (BNI Records). The accomplishment stands alone for what it is. Everybody knows Scott Guthrie goes fast where ever he is. As for the other guys I don't really pay much attention to the motorcycles so I can't comment. Any news about cars running? I am pretty sure they have them in the east.

Lots of cars, a roadster went over 200. The Gustafson corvette went 194. The Onterio Brothers were there and Bill Murphy. Ed Brace with his found Money crew. Masters and McKenny's Stude. I don't know any times but everyone was very happy with the track.

Not the truth. Everyone hopes they do well and last long. What Rich is doing is once again trying to explane records to people who don't seem interested in learning . Life is so much eaiser for those who prefer ignorance.

  21. I guess the continuing argument will continue because of the difference in what traction is available on concrete vs salt, al***ude, and the what is next. Not my argument.
Since these guys know where to paak the caas, good job on getting to use a facility that I wouldn't think could be available at all. I hope all of y'all had a bunch of fun going fast! We could possibly do the same thing at Blytheville AR, big ugly flying fkers.
Loring will probably has a less probability of having a puff of wind sending a car for a flat spin than Bonneville. Again, could be wrong, not trying to start an argument.

You can set standing start mile or Kilometer records at Loring, or Maxton, or Texas, or El Mirage, or Muroc or Bonneville. Get the FIA people there to survey the course and certify the clocks and your on. For flying mile records your pretty much limited to Bonneville or Black Rock. So first you have to decide what your talking about. Then do it. If you only want to talk about watching other people do it, well I'm not all that interested.

What indication did anyone give about "seeming not interested".?
And whats the story on the people that set records in other countries?Isn't the LSR held by a british car in England? I'm not sure on this but i thought i remembered hearing that.

The landspeed record can be set anywhere conditions to set up a course long enough to make two way runs and level enough to meet FIA requirements can be found. South Africa and Australia have been used. Ormand beach in the old days as well as Muroc. All of this information has been out there since way before the internet, for those who were interested. It would seem to me that those with even a slight interest would know about Richard Noble, Andy Green and the "Thrust" team at Blackrock and breaking the speed of sound.

Interested? 11:37am, August 2nd, Limestone, Maine:

    72.9 degrees - 76% - 29.13"
    STD correction - 1.0625
    Dens. Alt. - 2452
    Dew Pt. - 65.2
    H2O - 93.103
    Pres. Alt. - 739
Average wind - 10.2 mph (perfect tail wind)
    Maximum wind - 19.6 mph

A special thank you to all those compe***ors from "away" (CA, TX, KY, FL, OH, IA, TN, GA, SC, NC, VA, NY, NJ, CT, RI, MA, VT, NH and any that I have missed) who participated in adding yet one more new chapter to land speed racing and opening the door to a fast new future. The hard work and sacrifices made by the members of ECTA and LTA deserve our most sincere respect. In providing yet one more venue to those of us in search of speed, they have created real opportunity. All communities have naysayers, village explainers, and small minds and land speed racing is no exception. For two days, in remote Maine, people had fun, made new friends, went fast and broke down many barriers. Again to those who have made it possible and opened a door to the future a heartfelt thank you from a few of us who went fast and made history.
