Nothing like the look of scallops on a shoebox. Who did that paint job for you Rodknockers?

  5. I was vending at Carlisle one spring an saw two guys come to blows over Chevy vrs. Ford, it was hilarious! I think when it was over they both went over and had a hot dog, I remember because they left their garbage on my trailer where they parked their sorry butts down! They farted and parted company. I'm a Chevy guy but I do like the 49' Fords, my uncle bought one new and it was sweet, curb-feelers included.

For sure! That is a dated look and I don't mean in a traditional way. The pictures are four years old. I have a bunch of things on my short list, where to start? I have been hard at work but until now its been mostly mechanical, I am finally at the point to attack paint and interior among other things.

Here's "Simply Red". Nosed, decked, shaved, frenched head and tail lights, split rear window, power disk brakes, narrowed Ford 9" with 4-link, tired 302 with automatic. Hoping I can hit the sweet spot of enjoying driving it while working to upgrade and customize various bits.

I would love to have a sectioned and chopped shoebox but the hardest part would be fitting my 6'3 body inside haha

Here's "most" of my '50 Tudor Sedan.

Suspension is Jamco front and rear. Recently got the new floor pans installed and a new tunnel. Starting on the body work, which is why the front panels are off. I just about have everything under the hood ready to go. Keeping the 226 and 3spd overdrive trans. It will have a shiny paint job and be driving in a few months from now. This is my first build and it's been a long road but I've had a lot of good help and learned a ton. Can't wait to be driving this thing.

Don't know why more people build authentic 50's style rods out of early Ford shoebox coupes? On a California rake, but lowered all the way around, bigs & littles, a little OHV and a stick trans, louvered hood. Now thats how i remember them back then.

A friend of mine is doing just that with a souped flathead, but I agree it's unusual. IMHO too many people are following the herd when building a shoebox these days. Just do a search on E*ay under "1954 Pontiac grille" and see what comes up under related searches (i.e. appleton spotlight, 1953 desoto, 1957 cadillac hubcap) Kind of sad isn't it....

How many shoebox fastbacks with a 5-6" chop, air bags, tilt column, air running a 350/350 in flat black with '57 Caddy repop hubcaps, WW radials and tunneled tail lights can you look at before you come up with your own ideas? We all make fun of the "tuner" crowd on here but in reality they sometimes show more creativity than many kustom car guys I've met...:(

    Eye Appeal

Agreed! The Tuner Boy's do have some unique ideas and style but I don't think I'm going to run right out and buy as set of Nissen Headlights and Hyundhi Tailights for my Shoebox Project.... NOW maybe a set of Lambro Door hinges could get my heart pumping...LOL

If your building or want a period kustom how many things have already been done... Obviously if you own a Shoebox Ford these were popular vehicles to be used as everyday drivers & to be made into Kustoms. There were many kustoms built in this time frame. Most of the shoebox's that we all know and love were from the Little Pages way back when.... These obviously were the cars that were good enough to make magazine coverage.. These shoebox's were the ones that got copied.... Its all personal taste..... To copy someone elses car is a high complement to the original builder...

On another note.... Lets all face finiancial facts, your not going to intentionally build a vehicle that is so far out of the normal that you will be stuck with it for life.... We all know that Cars come and go...

Nobody that I know want to own or build a vehicle that don't have appeal and recognition by other owners or builders.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.......

I don't know what they are out of, they came with the project. they are quite simple, upper and lower pads with exposed frame and a hole that rotates on side pins, no lock. here are a few more shots if it helps any.
