The spring mount setup in the last photo looks kinda scary. Will there be more to it?

Yeah...I understood your comment, and you made a valid point.

Unfortunately, your second point is also valid. Never being one for censorship, I still wish this thread could be deleted. Car wrecks are never appealing.

You wouldn't catch me riding in that thing!!! The first bump he hits the frame is going to snap, maybe he has a skid plate welded to the floorpan for the occasion. Either way he used up all of the scrap steel/angle iron he could find looks like.

I wonder what his "customers" cars look like.............

I always get amused when I see people post pics of horrific work, and then speak of the fact that they sell that kind of work to other people. I guess everyone has a different set of standards!

I am glad I live several states away, at least I don't have to worry about my family being anywhere around anything he has worked on.

The rear of that spring is doing nothing.. Might as well chop it off, its a half elliptical sping set up anyhow. Add some leafs too. Chop is a good start..

The welds on the spring mount in the center look scary at best. I doubt the welds on the front frame "Z" are any better. I also see no added support/fishplates/gussets on the "Z". This thing is just an accident waiting to happen. If you cant design a suspension, your best off is to buy a good kit from someone like Posies, Chassis engineering, Pete & Jakes, etc that is properly engineered from the start. If you cant weld properly, you need to tack the parts in place, and then have someone who is qualified to weld properly do the final welding.

I hope the frame holds or it is gonna be a lower-rider. Don't mean to jump on the bandwagon but things look a bit sketchy.

Why don't you H.A.M.B.ers offer some constructive suggestions instead of being such "Dickheads".....

What could you possibly suggest? The mindset of the builder is totally off topic with this board.

The truck needs a new frame, new suspension (and thats just a start), all done by a qualified builder. I doubt that the OP is going to scrap everything he's done and go find someone to pay to do the work.

Milorat: Constructive suggestions? After you give this topic some objective review, you'll be a "dickhead", too. You can't be that far off, anyway.

    1. The frame, the portion we can see, appears to be constructed with no thought given to beam or torsional loading. If you don't know what that means, look it up.

    2. The front suspension is, at the most basic, a study in conflicting geometries. The arc of rotation prescribed by the heim-jointed upper link is in direct conflict with the arc prescribed by the front half of the "leaf" spring. Look at the frame-end bracket on that upper link...it is a simple tab. You KNOW this is wrong.

    3. The spring is clamped in the middle. Provided this thing ever saw road force impact, that spring would work harden and shear at the plane prescribed by the front end of that mount. The rear portion of the spring does nothing, but this guy didn't know that.

    4. He is using flux-core wire to "weld" this thing together.

    5. The drag link is in front of the axle, which means he commited the cardinal sin of steering geometry. He has reverse Ackerman. You know what that means, right?

So...look at the pictures, again. Find ANYTHING, from a fabrication point of view, that is correct. If you can't, then that means you have some skill and knowledge, and would therefore be critical of his methods.

This thing is a deathtrap, a joke, and the challenge is to try to figure out how this guy ended up with the parts...oh, wait.

THE PARTS ARE LEFT OVER FROM CUSTOMERS CARS!

Do you ACTUALLY want this guy putting ANYTHING out? Someone will die if this kind of shit isn't nipped in the bud, and giving him "constructive suggestions" isn't even a part of the mix.

Actually, that's not entirely accurate. Here's one: STOP NOW!

There ya go, Milo. My pleasure.

There is proof you have!!! Welding, gussets, etc wont help that design/geometry.
