G day guys, Having seen various past posts from the HAMB archives, I thought I would like to start a thread just specific to our Aussie Icon - The Ute. So one and all, if you have any pictures, tech information, production figures, etc, be it hotrods, restored, relics or intended projects, post them here for the other Hambers. To keep it HAMB friendly, please show only those that are HAMB specific. Gentleman start your engines..........
I love the Aussie ute's - I wish the FPV's would make it over here someday, would almost make me purchase a new car again!
Thanks oz40 for starting a long overdue general thread on utes. Like plagiarism, it's a great idea and I wish I had thought of it first! I have always loved utes and over the years I have dragged a couple across the pond. 1940 Willys coupe ute, 1932 Ford Roadster ute now built and owned by 1939Ken here on the HAMB. A friend of mine recently sold a gorgeous 1934 Ford Roadster ute. Another friend of mine has a 1940 Ford Ute I found for him and I have an oh so rare 1933 Willys Model 77 roadster ute. Larry O'Tooles "The Good Ol' Aussie Ute" is the definitive book on the subject and Norm Darwin's "History of Ford in Australia" and "The History of Holden" by Eddie Ford publications, are another two good reference sources.
Thanks Weasel. Well bad luck, I beat you to it The picture of the 33 willys ute looks cool, but the house looks very familiar to me. I would make a bet thats Ferrets place in WA. And I know he has a few utes also and he has also sent a few over the pond in past years. I too have a 40 deluxe ute, its sleeping at Ozzyrats place oz40 (Tom)
Damn - Weasels, Ferrets - what's this - a rodentfest? The Ferret 1933 Willys ute was last seen in British Columbia along with a few Ford utes. I was offered it a few years back and have a ton of photos somewhere, but it was way too rough for the asking price and I passed on it. Darrell Beachy had one in WA along with a 1933 Willys roadster, which he took with him when he moved to Tassie about five or six years ago. My 1933 Willys roadster ute came from South Australia as a body only - I have an original chassis for it.

The Chev is with an old restorer and the FX was fitted with triple SUs and flared gaurds. The flares are off for good and he,s slowly getting it back together.
Well, see I was right, I have been to Ferrets place many a time. Last time there with Ozzyrat39, Ferret still had about 5 39/40 utes at his place. Just before I headed over to Europe, Ozzyrat39 sold off a 48 ford coupe ute. There is aslo a 1933 Wiilys ute in Perth, all resto and still owned by the original family oz40
Utes are sooooo cool !..my wife just came back from Au. and showed me pics of a o/t gto ute mmmmm tasty I seen a 46 or so mercury ute for sale in WA for 20k wish i could have got it

Here's one my dad had back in the 90's. The neighbors across the street complained about all the old cars in the BACK yard to the city. Apparently you can't store vehicles on the dirt in Chandler, Az. Anyways, dad poored a slab in the front yard and parked the UTE on it for about 2 months... they stopped complaining about the cars in the backyard....

Awesome thread! Just wait til rustynewyorker sees it. This is a '59 Chrysler Ute that I photoshopped, one with inverted '58 Ford trim and the other with '56 Nomad trim. It's all I can contribute. Carry on!
Not too many nowadays but a look at any photos of Australian Streetscapes in the early 50's you can see them everywhere. On the north side of Brisbane is a very tired roadster ute popular/anglia being used as mobile road sign. on the flathead meltdown site is this neat v860 powered ute.
I imported two UTEs from OZ a couple years back. One Plymouth and one Desoto. I did sell the Plymouth to a guy on the Mississippi here in Iowa last year but I have kept the Desoto. I have a fairly substantial collection of images and literature that I hope to put together on my website someday. I will post some of the more unusual here.
Great thread, just wish I could post a pic of my daily driver (EK Holden ute). Paint's a little rough but it's complete, 99% original (apart from vintage speed parts and period accessories) and everything works. It's lowered, and powered by a warm, triple carbed Grey motor.
