How bout this for a Dare to be Different rod? This is a 1960 Mazda T2000 2 ton truck w/ 1985cc engine. Anyone here have any info on it or know where another one for parts are? This is the one in the Mazda museum in Japan
Positive about the 2 ton rating. I talked with Mazda of Japan about it. You would have to see the rear suspension and rearend to understand............ IT'S MASSIVE. The frame is 8" boxed.
I'm still unsure why... but i'd like to see that thing set up as a gasser... yeah with 3 wheels. Talk about undrivable.
A real two ton truck hauls like 200 bushels of wheat, that's 12,000 pounds. That thing a two ton? I think not!
OK OK!! Some engineer do the math on the formula for the load of rice that would weigh TWO tons! Tons? I thought it would be in kilos or such. Split51, what are the "bed" dimensions?
I know your Mazda isn't a "micro" vehicle, but a great souce of information on foreign 3-wheelers is the "Microcar-Minicar Yahoo Group": http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/microcar-minicar/ There are some HARDCORE guys on there, incredibly well-versed in weird vehicles from all over the world. I'd bet a few will be able to help you out. (There's another Yahoo Group for microcars, but it gets very little traffic. The one above is very active.) You may also think about joining The Vintage Microcar Club: http://microcar.org/ Great people, excellent quarterly magazine, and the membership has an incredible wealth of knowledge.
How about a hemi in the bed and mount a straight front axle in the front. I think it looks a little like a catfish. Would make a wild wheelstander.
Those things are all over SE Asia. I saw several of them in Taiwan with dual wheel rears and masses of stuff on top. I wouldn't question the 2 ton capacity. There were probably models with less and more capacity than that when they were being produced.
Mine is the short bed. It is 8'x5.5'x18". The overall length is 13'. Here is a picture of a long bed w/ the 12' bed. Here are a few pictures to show how heavy this thing is built. The rear tires are 7.50x16 14 ply. and yes, the carrier is 12" even though the picture makes the tape measure look off. I can not verify the 2 ton, I am only going off of what Mazda of Japan told me but I figure they dont know very much about the vehicle they built........
I think you proved your point! That sucker is built stout... it's funny to see how stout it is in the rear... and how wimpy the front end is on it. (or atleast wimpy looking)
CJ, The springer front end is massive also. I can barely move the front assembly by jumping in the cab. The front tire is a 6.50x16 8 ply. I will post some pics of the front end tomorrow, it is getting a bit too dark today.
I think my Uncle in Italy had one of these on his farm. I remember it b/c It was so odd. That thing was a work horse.
LOL Jangles. I would like to know that too. Mazda didnt start importing in the US until 1970. I am in contact w/ a guy in Japan just trying to find a few parts for it like the grille and even he told me "good Luck".............
