wow, just wow, I'd have to agree that the build quality is suspect at best. There seems to be some issues with it. And the builder has been on here for about 4 years, you'd think he'd have learned by now....

To all u "know-it-all" wise guys on here that couldn't see a good idea if it hit them in the head, think about this, what do you think people said about good ol Henry Ford when he designed the automobile to begin with? I'm sure there was a whole lot of opposing ideas, and "know-it-all"s who disagreed with his plans and ideas. But to their dismay and soon to be your's it WORKED! just because a man decided to think outside of the box or the "how-to" books all you smarties read dosen't mean that its not a good idea. I think that the design is a great innovation in the common build of a vehicle or a ratrod and am excited to see it finished! thanks for staying true to the ratrod theme, in the end, thats the whole point, Right?

Wrong, this is NOT a Rat Rod messageboard. This is a Traditional Hot Rod and Custom board. The members of this board do not promote Rat Rods. Do not want to see Rat Rods. Do not condone them either....

I just puked in my mouth....

Dude don't take this the wrong way, but it's "builders" who make me the most money...

Seems they don't think past the finish of the vehicle. Also seems the only ones they actually finish and make relatively safe and reliable are the cars they keep for themselves. And that's after many miles and time devoted to testing them out. Which to be honest most don't have time for and can't afford to take the time to do it.

It's the poor sucker who got took who was trusting the work of the builder, he's the guy who pays for it in the end. Hopefully not with his life. I'm not saying that 's what you are doing here with this project, I'm sure your intentions are above board. But I'm not gonna hold your hand and pat your butt and tell you it's alright either.

If you are in defense of your work it tells me that you question it yourself.

The ones who are questioning it are doing it because they have made the mistakes before.

Physics it physics and the one that thought that shit up is a whole lot smarter that you and I will ever be. Nothing new has been done here or anywhere that hasn't been done before by someone. What ends up is someone making the same mistake someone else did before. Hopefully we learn from those who did it before and came up with a method or methods that are tried and true.

Moral, take what anyone says with a grain of salt, that being said. Integrity shouldn't be for sale.

Scares the crap right out of me,, and that is my professional opinion.

  6. Very interesting thread to say the least! Low buck does NOT mean low quality. I'm just putting the finishing touches on my 50 Merc M1 and am in to it for under $3,000. It is safe at any speed and has a class III hitch to tow my boat.
Build quality aside..... If you drove that around here you'd last about a half hour before one of our finest tazered you for that "shifter" sticking up in the air.
    No offence intended. Just IMHO.

  14. I fear when you hit the brakes the front leaf will buckle upward, unload [if it doesn't snap off] and buckle again, unload etc etc etc...
Plus, I gotta wonder why the rear half of the spring is still attached....I agree it does nothing.
A panhard bar is mandatory too. I believe I'd replace the front suspension/steering with a more conventional design.
Not trying to be unkind but you did ask. .............and the ackerman is lost with the tierod in front like has already been pointed out. Not a huge deal except on really sharp turns but it does cause front tire scrub and binding on sharp turns.
Consider the razzing of the other guys as constructive criticizm.....but please do consider it seriously.

    Hahaha.

All of the sudden, according to these guys, building a car the right way, with proper suspension geometry (unless you are a qualified engineer, like Henry Ford was, you should not be designing your own suspension geometry) is only for rich people. And whats wrong with rich people anyway? Every very wealthy guy I know or have met is a smart person, and I have learned a lot from most of them.

I guess some people just have low standards.

Thats exactly why I opened the thread in the first place! My initial excitement, triggered by the title, was shattered all too quickly.

    Ahhh, maybe next time......

I am building my car. I did not install the front MII crossmember, it was done a while back. The rear parallel leaf setup is a Posies kit, with the rear shackle mounts built into the frame rails to get it lower. I TIG welded all of the rear suspension parts in place, as well as the motor mounts, tranny crossmember, etc. You wont find any flux core bubble gum MIG welds on my car.

And yet you still have people saying the same things over and over. It's kind of like walking down the street, flying in a an airplane or even in fact driving any car down the road. You can be killed, dead right there or for most of you white haired critics die of a heart attack. You can take all your flavorless tattoo's and white T-shirts with cigs rolled up in the sleeve of them and get in your "fat fendered" ride and eat crow. If you should know I am his son and his truck is cool. He was just telling me the other day that he was about ready to pull everything apart and button everything up.....so there you conclusion, critisism and flat ignornance has got the best of most of you guys. Let someone pick your catalog built car apart and Im sure you would get defensive as well. I hate the fact this is supposed to be a community of cool guys which I was wrong there are several large douche bags that spent tons of time threading on this post which no one really gives a crap about. Yes Im defending my father because he is my father and I would punch any one of you scum bags in the teeth if you were in front of me. It really doesn't have to be physical match of strength talent or anything of that nature. To close I would say next time anyone of you guys have to fix something that your shotty craftsmanship has dealt that you stole from someone else breaks think of this post. Nobody's perfect and in the end it still your crap. You don't care what anyone thinks about take for example if you have an ugly wife, daughter or mother etc. etc. you probably dont care because you have heard it before.

with this many people saying it's unsafe you would think you guys would take a hint and maybe fix it instead of trying to defend it.

That said, Dude welcome and introduce yourself properly if you want to be taken seriously. Which I doubt you really care about at all, since all you want to do seemingly is talk out of the side of your neck, insulting those, who as Rocky put it, is the "razzing of the other guys as constructive criticism".

We aren't interested in seeing a failure, sure it's entertaining like watching a train wreck, but seriously would rather see a success. New idea or not, If it is a proven failure that and/or a questionable safety concern, at least be wise enough to take the "criticism" under advisement. It may save your life and/or your fathers life or that of any passenger or potential buyer.
