That's a damn cool photo there! But I'm tempted to say those tires look more like 3" wide whitewalls to me though.
Heres my 54 with cheap piner radials on astros. When they stoped making the old welded ones and went to the cast 2pc deals I paniced and bought 10 sets! needles to say All my buds and I are running suppremes. Glad there making them again.
I usually hate radials, but on a late 60s or early 70s era car, they look right to me, and probably "period correct". Hidden under fenders.
Back when I was in High school I had a 79 monte carlo with 14x7 supremes with ww whitewalls. They were actually thin whitewalls that I had cut to 3" it looked bitchin. I'll see if I can scan some pics and get them loaded.
I just got my Supremes in the mail the other day. I initially went to my local Les Schwab and they wanted $179 a wheel plus a $25 shipping fee per wheel, just for the wheels mind you. Well that was too rich for my blood so I checked online and found these guys on eBay and called them, they hooked me up with wheels and tires mounted, balanced and shipped to my door for $795. They're fully welded along the bottom of the spoke too, not the cheap non reinforced kind. They had excellent customer service to boot, the guy I dealt with even sent me pictures of a wheel with two different tires to help me decide on tire/whitewall size. Here's a picture of one on the car, they're 14x7's with 185/75 radials and a 5/8" whitewall. I think they're called Wheelpro or Prowheel out of California; the guy I dealt with was named Rudy, here's the number if you're interested. (562)404-8558
When I put 15" Supremes on the '62 wagon I went for some custom made dual-pinner radial tires from DBTires. I 'like' the looks of bias-plys more, but I hate the way they handle. The wagon had bias ply's on it when I bought it years ago, but after driving it for a couple of days back then, the first I did was to take 'm off and put them up for sale. A lot of roads in my city have tram-rails which make you really appreciate a good set of tires under your car. Currently I have a set of 235/60 tires under the wagon. On hindsight, for the looks, I could/should have chosen for a 70 or 75 series tire to fill the wheelwells some more. But with the wagon lowered, a smaller tire will still give more tire-clearance while turning in the front. I'm thinking of putting 2-3" wide whitewalls on my '57 Chrysler with supremes. That car is more customized already and will really benefit from those kinda tires I think.
