Don't believe it. All the racers I know talk about the close ones. Not the runaway wins. Personally I remember the times I was side by side with someone at the finish line of the dragstrip, or battling it out for laps on end with someone on the dirt track. Winning is nice, but when the racers let it get away from them, and the money guys take over, the fun goes away.

    Riceman-
Love your work man! For those of you who don't know of this dudes' work, google him!
I agree the angle might have looked nice raked back a notch, but these guys no doubt had to jump through a hoop or two to get this car approved way before it ever got built. I would feel safe in saying that they raised a few brows when this car was first presented for approval.
Adam has a pretty cool opportunity to drive a car nobody else has. Sort of a test pilot huh?
Of course anyone who hops in one of these is test pilot stuff, but this car is obviously different in a few ways.
Innovation is a great thing, but it isn't always going to be everybodys' cup of tea.
I would be the first guy to admit to liking the old-school cars from the 60s. The FED cars of today are just one class of many. They happen to be a verrrry cool class.
Thankfully, there are people racing the old machinery too, updated to todays' safety standards. Altereds are back, and they too have been altered a bit from the way they were.
All of this simply adds up to a great sport. If corporate sponsorship bothers a person, there are the classes where this is not as huge as say, current top fuel cars.
Fact is... It takes money to keep any sport alive. If people don't know about it, then they don't show up and the sport evaporates.
All of this said... Enjoy the Champion Speed Shop car for what it is- A ballsy step toward innovation in an inherently (did I spell that right?) innovative sport.
    Nice work guys.

Innovative, yeah. And sexy fast. A romantic heritage. Adrenaline valve loud and dangerous as a bull comin' out of the chute. The jones is on for March Meet - countin' the hours... Nitro fever reigns..... This little town hall meeting passes the time nicely. Next?

Cole COONCE is on here TOO?! You were a huge inspiration to me man, and the Champion Crew has been too. THANKS for all the comments and here's another sketch...I, ah...I just can't stop. I LOVE THIS !@#$%^&*&^%$#@!@#$%^!!!!!!!!!!

....don't mind the big red thing hanging on the back of the motor. I was just playing with some big rig trailer aerodynamics. Y'know, when they put that rounded panel across the trailer back to clean up the air?.....?....whatever.

    Conder-
I like the concept and would suggest the following before anyone tries this.
Take a look at the way the airflow from this, effects the flow over the canopy area. In some instances, combining features like this can introduce things like lift, lateral instability or just a big pile of drag, you never expected to see.
The other thing I would consider is the possibility of accidentally turning the engine into an airfoil. The engine is not symmectrical out front (specifically, the blower belt assembly)(similar to the leading edge of a wing), which might cause pressure on one side of the engine to higher than the other. At 65 MPH this might not really show up. But at 200 MPH, the air tends to get pretty bossy.
Again... I like the concept and would enjoy seeing someone put the idea to a very methodical test.
Love your art by the way.

    It's not conventional,

It's not cookie cutter or sheep like,

It's built with the idea's of the guy's race'n it.

    It's built by the Guy's race'n it.

Sure Looks LIKE A HOT ROD to ME...!

    Way to go...!!!!

Conder, your out of the box thinking & Sharpie design work is ass kick'n Bro.

Concepts like those are what made Drag Racing & Hot Rodding AUSOME..!

I hope someone builds something off this drawing. I have been to Conders shop. And there are cool drawings all over in there. Just drawn on stuff like that. He said "gotta do something waitin for clear to dry". Man really neat to see.

Jeepers, what a brain trust on here - almost looks like a thread from WDIFL or something. Great ideas, you guys. And Conder - you're the limit! Are you sketching cars on the curtains now? I gotta get down there and see your place...

Hip us to the tradition, Sam. I'm not from there, so I probably miss a lot of stuff like this.
They look somewhat Greeky to me...

Hope to have some March Meet qualifying numbers for you soon.

The word on 1st round of qualifying: No Time for Adam (and no explanation yet).
Top Qualifier so far is Rick White: 5.85/253.52
    Bottom is Brendan Murray: 11.73/80.11

Dan Horan crashed into Mike Chrisman. Horan has minor injury, Mike's okay. Mike's driving car that Randy Beck got upside down at last March Meet.

  17. Sam ... Thanks for posting this Jim McLennan Tribute video ... way C:cool::cool:L!

I've watched it a several times now ... around the third viewing, I realized that the narrator is none other than John Drummond (John D on the HAMB) ... doing his best "FM radio DJ" impression :D.

From the Better Late Than Ever Dept: Adam didn't get a time today because Brett Harris crossed the centerline in front of him. But he says the car "ran okay". Better luck tomorrow...

    And now, this update:
Adam got in the show today at #10: 6.153/234.25 Famoso crew are referring to the car as "The Batmobile" (that didn't take all day)...

Brett Harris (who cut in front of Adam without signaling yesterday [where's a cop when you need one?]) is sitting at #1: 5.69/251.32

On the bump (#16) is Mark Malde: 10.88/70.93

A side note: 29 Funnies showed up for the 16 car field (or is it 8???)...

Maybe we'll get a report from Adam after the clutch dust settles on SUNDAY! SUNDAY! SUNDAY! See these speed crazed daredevils shake hands with the devil as they barrel roll across the finish line on fire!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Be there!!!!!

Thanks, Hammrit - finally figured that out last night.

Well, Adam ended up at #8, with a 6.063/232.13
Went out in 1st round today against Shannan Stuart, with a 6.12/240.44 - left hard, then I don't know what happened - good exit speed, so?...

All in all, not a bad debut for the little 'liner. Should be a contender when it's dialed in. I'm very proud of the guys this weekend and I dig how the car gets people revved up. And as a smallblock guy, I'm proud of these first time numbers, too. Yeah, it appears to have SB2 heads on a billet block - that's what it takes. And if I had the money, you can bet your ass I'd be running the same stuff. Bottom line: This is a stout smallblock and the Champion Speed Shop tradition continues, scallops and all (right Sam?)...
And now, back to your regularly scheduled programming..... Thanks to all who contributed - pro and con.
    Scotty

  22. That is correct, Champion out in first round despite their 150 pound weight break:rolleyes:

I just do not see it fair WHY they get a 150 pound weight break because they are a 'small block' chev ( canted heads, billet block). Here is the link on the weight break-

    http://www.nhrahotrodheritage.com/rules-09.pdf

They hardly have a disadvantage with their motor yet they get to be lighter than everyone else according to the rules. No one can give an explanation. BS it is. I wonder what they will call/classify my iron Pontiac with these new rules? Also, the rules, other than safety, are NOT being enforced either. Several teams have been caught red handed cheating. I won't mention names but, I could.
Not bitching, just wanting it explained why rules are made to favor certain teams and then many NOT being enforced. ???
Of course, the public and the fans, generally, do not know this stuff.

On the Funnies- There are 2 8 car shows, an "A" and a "B" so this way 16 floppers get to run today:) This is what a friend told me earlier who crews on Dale Puldes Firebird funny.

    Steve,

FYI, we weighed 1890 all weekend long. About 150lbs more than we can...

We weren't taking "advantage" to any weight break this weekend...

We don't write the rulebook. We just read it.

    See ya at the scales....

I'm really glad to see Adam on here! I was imported up to Lake Chelan the last 2 weeks painting a '64 T-Bird....But, I drew this while having a fine meal at the Apple Cup diner up there!

This is a current big time Top Fuel rail concept...

*Frame is front engine, with driver behind (not on top) of rear axle. It's structurally based on the triangulated load boom of a tower crane.

*Driver is very low and rides in an unlimited Hydro/fighter plane style safety pod/canopy that will blow off when 'chute deploys in an accident.

*I know they need the big rear wing up there in the "clean" air to stay on the ground at 330+, but I'm still trying to get away with the long, low mounted F-1 style primary canard body with the troughs.

*The injector set-up is a giant, one piece carbon fiber 4-port like the new stuff, only with an integrated "GBP" style scoop.

I know I know, it's easy to talk about and some driver will have to be thrown under the bus to test it......Okay...I'll drive it....
