Hey, you Ottinger fans...did you know that L.D. was the fast qualifier for the first Kroger 200 at Indianapolis Raceway Park in 1982? Which means he was the first Busch track record holder at IRP. And, I guess, the first NASCAR track record holder on an oval in Indianapolis.
l.d. also had a really nice 40 ford hot rod. and the pics of mike alexander,he now has a son racing.clay alexander. ran with us some when i worked at huntsville. jus thought i let ya'll know
I enjoyed being around Mike when he ran short tracks and NASCAR also. Too bad he had a wreck at the height of his career, I think he would have done well with the Miller car. One of my favorite memories of Mike racing was one race at Pensacola or Mobile, neither of which had walls on the back side of the track at the time. Mike spun off the back and wound up in a swampy area. He had only his fire proof shoes and didn't want to get them wet I guess because I looked up in a minute and saw one of his crewmen coming over the rim of the track carrying Mike piggy back. One more for the day and then I had better go home and eat before the dog gets it. A technical exchange (BULL) session on this trailer at Dixie I guess. "Now this is what I do.........." Left side with his back to us is Jack Demmer (sp?), facing us is Luther Carter, on the right side with his back to us is Ed Massey and facing us is Bud Lunsford.
I posted this on the latemodel dirt forum yesterday but decided to post here also. This is Bill Ingram and Mike Swims in their younger days, both have passed on but will be remembered in GA dirt racing. A few Bill Ingram shots
Yeah, as you can see, the highest degree of banking (and it was HIGH) was only about a lane wide, and was up at the wall. Maybe they called this the Oakland Dent.
A.J. Foyt at Texas World in a USAC Stock Car race. Could this be the alleged 7/8 scale Camaro? Be pretty hard to get away with it since there were a lot of Camaros around that time. Would have stood out...
A little pre-race at GA International: Mark Martin------Davey Allison Bob Senneker----Dick Trickle A few local dirt cars from the late seventies - early eighties. Hobby, cadet and street stocks.
Actually, John, I think the Foyt Camaro was a little oversized if anything. I was told that the car was built at 110" wheelbase for a little better stability on the big tracks. I saw the car just last summer in a museum in NC, and it's definitely not undersized.
probably not what you guys are looking for ,these guys still do it like they used to over here. These pics were taken about 6 months ago.
So that's what ya' do with old Anglias . I always thought one would make a great northeast style modified body. My dad bought one of those brand new here in '49. I just barely remember riding in it.
I got in right at the end of the old coupes, I wish I had had a chance to watch them more. I saw the last of what we called "skeeters" down here in GA and some of the old coupes and sedans in south AL. Asphalt for the dat: Butch Miller-----Mickey Gibbs Jody Ridley-----Mike Eddy Dirt: Mike Head------Rusty Wilson Dennis Vernon----#02 ?????
