I finally got the rear part of the fender finished. I still have the area that bolts to the grill to work out. This fender is pretty bent out of shape in that area so I am going to barrow a really nice fender from my buddy so that I can make sure its the same shape.

Today's the big day. I started on the "vicky" conversion on the back of the car. I have a buddy that has an origional 33' vicky that I took all of my patterns off of to make sure its as close to an origional as I can get.

I first removed the back of the floor so that I have access to the welds around the bottom and sides. Then I put an x-brace in to keep the sides from coming in when I cut the back off.

Next I marked the section to remove through the window, and started cutting. Very intimidating to cut into a nice body like this.

Ive got it clamped in place. Nice to see how it will all come together.

Im ready to put this drivers door back together. With all the pieces still apart I primed and painted the inside of everything. That way when the door is put back together their wont be any problems down the road with rust.

I got the door put back together today. I installed the x-brace and put weatherstrip in between the brace and the skin (that way it wouldn't rattle).

I started on the bead section under the rear window. For now I will clamp everything together until all the panels are made.

Next I have to lean the rear roof out.

Today I got the roof leaned and the center back panel made.

Now I need to make all the transitions from the back panel into the existing sides.

Do you e-wheel those large panels? If so show us the e-wheel you use as to what brand and anvil choice. Thanks

I do use my english wheel to make compound curves in large panels.

The frame of my machine I built, but the wheels come from a company called Hoosier Pattern. They by far make the best english wheels.

its looking great, i know your not finished, but i think a real vicky has just a little less bustle or the back window needs to be angled a little bit more so it just a but more flat(but not like 34 vicky flat!), its damn close but just not it, or at least in my eyes, im sure your still working it out.

good luck, ive always loved vickys.

I'm shooting really hard to have it as far as possible, in bare metal, for the Salt Lake City Autorama on the march 27-29. I'm hoping by then that the vicky conversion will be done. I will barrow some running boards from my buddy, and all the fenders, doors, and hood hopefully will be done as well.

So ive been trying to find another drivers front fender for the vicky that wasn't so rough cause of the deadline Im trying to meet. But I haven't had any luck so I decided to just work out all the huge dents and make this one work. Ive got most of the bigger dents worked out now its just all the small dents everywhere. Plus there are some cracks in the wire edge that need attention.

Today I started making the pieces of the beads to transition around to the body. Starting to flow better.

Your work on the fenders is amazing. Maybe you answered this and I missed it...but do use a shinking disc to get the little dents smoothed or is it all hammer and dolly, pick and file?

And on the rear window area...does it get leaned forward? To me...it looks more vertical than the black one above?

    Thanks,

    Neal

I do use the shrinking disk along with a hammer and dolly and bulseye pick.

As for the top. Its definatly been a challenge to do the conversion where I don't have a car here in the shop to check back and forth with. But one thing that I have done is compared in photoshop a side profile of my buddies on top of a side profile of mine. The top of the roof above the window has the same profile, but it was the bottom under the window that needed to be moved out. Once that was moved out the two profiles ligned up.

After I do this one I plan on buying a vicky to have here in the shop to take dirrect patterns dirrectly off of. That will make sure that I can get everything that much more accurate.
