I am running a single 780 D.P. on my 289. I just bought a offy. duel quad tunnel ram for the same motor.I have never run two carbs before. My question is can I run vac.secondaries and if I run a progessive link can I get away with running a pair of 500c.f.m. carbs?I would appreciate any help i can get .Thanks

  2. I've run dual 500 Edelbrock's with progressive linkage on a 289/302 with good results

Thanks .I still wonder if I can use vacuume secondaries on a tunnel ram.But thanks I may try that.

  4. Edlebrocks are similar to a vac seconday in that the air valve for the secondary opens under engine air flow demands.

I ran 2 Holley 390 carbs (vacum secondaries) on a tunnel rammed 350 with 488 rear gears. They worked great. I drove the car all the time, even on road trips for 12 hours on the highway. I drove it to the track, ran low 13's and drove it home again. The car was very driveable and had plenty of power. The only time it ran out of carb was when I opened the headers.

    my $.02

Vacuum secondaries work just fine on a tunnel ram, but unless you have huge heads and an huge cam, the secondaries may never open with 2 500s on a 289. I ran 2 390s on a 289 with a medium sized cam and the secondaries only opened 2/3s of the way. With a Real big cam and ported 351 heads the 2 390s weren't big enough, had to go to 2 600 DPs.

Thanks guys. A friend of mine has a pai of 510 c.f.m. A.F.B.carbs I can get cheap I guess I'll give it a shot. I run 411s and a fairly large cam ,so what the heck I'll buy the carbs and if the y don't work I'll have a an extra pair.
