If nobody stashed cars in a shed what would the kid find in 20 or 30 year saying "Look at my barn find"

I helped clean the house of my buddy when his grandpa died. Grandpa had saved the cotton balls out of the tops of Bayer aspirin bottles, and stashed them in empty bandaid and vaseline tins. Thousands upon thousands of them, full of aspirin cotton. Every cabinet in the lower half of the kitchen and bathroom, full. Must been doing it since 1929. . He was a depression-era man...

    Weirdest thing I ever saw

    It's a matter of perception.
Someone posts a shot of a hot rod guys garage with old grilles hanging from the rafters, 23 aluminum intakes,18 vintage shifters and 11 sets of aluminum valve covers sitting around, along with a variety of '30's art deco dash gauges attached on a wall and it's called great garage art
Another guy(non hot rodder) has 2 40 Ford coupes in his back garage and he is called a hoarder.
If we collect something and we get something from someone then it's in OUR collection.
If someone else has it and we cant get it to add to our collection THAT guy is a hoarder

I do it cause I'm going to fix 'em all up some day and if I don't my kids will have one heck of an auction. One more thing, it's fun to tell everyone that stops wanting to buy something, "YEP, I'm goina fix 'er up someday!" The ones that stop don't ever want to actually pay you much anyway, they all seem to be hoping that you will say something like, "I'm damn tired of looking at that 50 Ford sittin' there, you would be doen' me a favor if you would just drag it out of here." "That's why I wasted a lot of my hard earned dollars and years of my life dragging all these cars in here just so you could come along and grab one for nothing!"

Plain and simple. When they are ready to sell them they will. It's called a retirement fund..........

  14. I think it has everything to do with not wanting to let go of something you have a dream about finishing...sometimes having that vision of the finished product is what keeps us going and hanging onto that car is hanging onto that dream....regardless of what actually happens to the car. And getting rid of the car is getting rid of the dream and*****....you die.

    Well said!

I knew an old guy years ago that had an original Model A roadster that he bought new. He still drove it on occasion. He had all the papers going back as far as the pass he got to tour the factory when he went to pick the A up in Detroit. He told me that he had a lot of offers to sell the car but if he did all he would do was spend the money. Then he would not have the car or the money. I could relate to his philosophy.

Today I got a call from my best friend. (He always tells me that he is trying to out do the number of vehicles that I own like it's some kind of contest.) He had went to an auction today and bought a 68 Ford pickup with a inline six and a three speed an the column with 22,000 actual miles. He told me he was so exited that he couldn't even calm down since It is the pickup he has always wanted since we were kids and he finally got one. I told him to calm down since he already owns over 80 pickups. If you go over to his place tomorrow and ask him if that 46 Ford pickup sitting in the weeds is for sale I know exactly what he is going to tell you. "YEP, I' going to fix her up some day." It makes him happy, he bought all that stuff with money that he earned, most of it has been purchased at auctions and every one else that read the sale bill or went to the auction had the opportunity to outbid him. Now none of it is for sale and that is his business.

"Because they don't make'm any more" That's what I tell people. or "I might loose one, thats why I need two" Truth is I enjoy the countless hours of searching & wheeling & dealing for the stuff! Keeps me outta trouble and off the couch!!

To put money in a bank for a future is alot different then hoarding cars.Money is a commodity we are forced to trade in to live,it goes in a bank for various reasons, such as accumulation of interest,to provide housing loans, car loans, bussiness loans for the community and its people,it doesnt collect dust, rot or waste away into dust never to be used again,it can be replaced, reprinted etc. These cars dont !It is a waste ,its not right and i dont care if its what they wish.We all get pissed when we see some guy***** up a perfectly great custom with some*****py mod,we throw our hands up and cry foul"how dare he ruin this car" well guess what this is the same thing if not worse,i want to preserve automobile history not add to its rotting ,hoarding history

As a rule is that when they die the family just wants it all gone. Usually sells for less than a penny on the dollar.

I found a way to deal with the question "is that car for sale?" "Yup, it sure is." Then give them a figure about 5 times what it is worth. My '32 5w is currently up for $150,000. Now that's todays price, come back tomorrow and it just might be $175-200,000. If someone shows up with the money I'll help them load it. Then I'll go out and find another for 1/2 that and put the rest in the bank. If they complain about the price I just say, "you asked if it was for sale,I said yes, the balls in your court."

I was driving my semi down a two lane highway the other day going south of a town that has the highest-paying scrap operation that I know of in my area. I met a pickup pulling a trailer with a 48 Chevy on it. I'm thinking to myself that those guys have a nice find that they are taking home, then I realized where I was and it dawned on me just what was going on. By now that old Chevy that had a lot of potential in my eyes is ground down into unrecognizable pieces of scrap.

    That is truly a shame.
