    Rootie-
Thanks once again for more really awesome pics. I will never get tired of that great stuff!
You are right, it dont matter where you are racing, position wise, a good close race is where its at. I was also very pleased to be able to race with Bentley Warren all those laps. They didnt get any better than he was back then!

Your welcome, I'll get some more. I never got to see BW race until a few years ago when he ran the Silver Crown race here at PPIR. Being a "oldtimer":) he was my pick. Faded back with tire problems early, but as the track got greasy in turns 1 and 2 he just took it slideways while everyone else pussyfooted it through, ended up finishing 8th I think. Worth the price of admission alone. :D

A great pic from Sacto 1965.
It was said that putting cages on the cars would make the drivers too "brave" and major crashing would result. Well, I guess they didn't see these guys. Look close and you'll see big Al in the #40 is on 2 wheels with brother Bobby in the #88 and J.Larson #10 on his ass and so close you probably couldn't fit a piece of paper between them, while A.J. follows, probably thinking they're just about to move themselves out of his way. They all finished between A.J. at 2nd and Al at 11th.

No need to worry about needing anything to make those guys "braver." They were all equipped with brass between their legs.

    Some 50s action:
Sacto 59- #94 Bill Homeier #78 Cotton Farmer, both showing good form.

W/G 1954- #94 Jack Bates #57 Bill Doster #76 Andy Linden, wheel their behemoths around the 1/2 mile.

Sacto 1962- I think they forgot to tell Bobby Marvin that he was in a champ car, on a mile track and not at Ascot in a sprinter as he demonstrates the "back it in" technique.

Unknown track, mid 50s- Jimmy Bryan, steering with his knees while he gives his victory salute.

Rootie- I was unlucky enough to be at Langhorne the day Marvin lost his life. What a horrible wreck, and almost two hour fire! I damn near lost my interest in racing that afternoon!

I vaugly remember that deal. I do recall he was quite a "comer" and judging by that pic, he wasn't afraid to stand on the gas. A real shame.

First I've heard of that. Seeing how it sits in the middle of junk yards, I don't know what else it would be good for, but it wouldn't suprise me.

Yep, just saw that on the Indiana site. Race tracks are a endagered species nowdays but given the location of Manzy I would have figured it to be one of the safer ones.

Just received some old news clippings today and found the description of this rollover interesting. Although the author may have thought the second roll was when the car was put back on its wheels.
