I don't really know. Never really looked inside. Now that you made the Bad Bob's Merc reference,I can't wait to see how it looks!!!!
Hi all, here's one side with the stock tail light removed and new lenses ('60 Impala) properly frenched all but a little leading, just remember, the lenses are still only dummies as I'm waiting for clear back-up and turn signal to go either side of the centre red stop/tail. BIGREDTODD, we tried to space em evenly but with the cut out middle section on the roll pan it just didn't quite look right, so we figured, if you cant get symetry, go for that old fifties favorite; assymetry. For some reason, the twin tail lights show up a little crooked in the photo but are dead level in person.
Paul, I am on the hunt for Pinto hinges. The one guy with a wagon I knew of has decided he doesn't want to part it out, it is a nice one. Well, if any were "nice". I do have another lead on a yard with several wagons and should know something by weeks end. Joe
Right folks here's where we are now, a couple of shots of the roll pan, the lenses frenched in their final configuration; A while back, I started a thread asking for opinions on whether or not I should paint my grill mesh black to conceal it or leave it gold and make a feature of it. Popular opinion said "Hide it!" so we mocked it up and guess what; I'm leaving it gold! Just seems somehow to make the chrome grill float and stand out better and to me,along with the P700 Lucas tribars it has a real early 60's Kustom show car look. That then lead me on to this; Back last year this picture showed up on The H.A.M.B; For some reason it has haunted me ever since and I frequently come back to it for my desktop wallpaper and it got me to thinking how I could incorporate it into the new build. Well this is what we've come up with; My interior lights are essential to me for when I load up my wheelchair and they have always been green; Well, since I've had her anyway. The idea is, that both this grill light and my interiors come on together when the doors are open to load me up in the dark. I just think it looks kinda creepy. Now we come to the other thing I asked for opinions on; Lakes Pipes. Well I decided to run them and I'm not hooking them up neither, they're for show not for go. But I've taken on board some advice I was given on the other thread and they're not just gonna be bolted on. This is gonna be a Kustom people, and luckily for me, Jungle Jim Turnbull and Gary Powell currently at Royal Kustoms know Kustom so here's what we've come up with between us; These are not finished yet. When they're finally done both the top and bottom layer of running board will have a nice rolled edge. I love the way the lake pipe floats without the aid of brackets. Once these baby's are done it'll be on to the filler cap and those monstrous rear door hinges. Later Paul
Man I am happy for you...it's lookin' good so far and I definitely dig the creepy factor with the green lights...pretty creepy and cool
Man, this thing is looking sweet! Great vision on this project. I was thinking of doing something similar with the grille on my '53 Ford. Did you use the l.e.d. light bars? What kind of mesh is that, and where in the hell could I find it in the States? The gold is perfect.
It looks awesome!...I've been waitng for an update, thanks for finally getting something up here for us to see how you're making out with it! Keep the updates coming, please!!
Looks kool Best use of neon I have ever seen...Now Ya got me thinking about My 63 Chevy Panel.....It's green...Maybe I could add some neon behind the grill......Hmmmmmm
Are you putting a ballet pole on the inside??? Thanks for making it yours. Most would have just drove it. Rick
Thanks for all the encouragement fellas. Over here the mesh I used is generally used for making house radiator covers/cabinets. I would think maybe larger DIY (home improvement?) stores like Home Depot over your side might carry something like it depending on how large a sheet you may need. To be honest I had to go direct to a manufacturer as they wouldn't do the sheets wide enough in store, but then again this is little old England, and everything is bigger in the states. For the green lights we used 2x12" cold cathode neon tubes that I got real cheap of Epay. We messed around with the positioning till we got the effect we wanted then cable (zip?) tied them to the mesh. We decided to use a couple of smaller tubes instead of one long one in case any body roll or flexing in the mesh might cause a breakage.
Everyone involved is bustin' a gut and working their asses off trying & there have been some issues......just gonna keep my fingers crossed & wait and see.Won't be for lack of tryin' tho'
Been fun watching it change from a really nice ride into a really nice Kustom ride! You got an outstanding project going on! I love it
The grill treatment with the lights on kinda reminds me of 'Gravedigger" the monster truck...must be the green... Looking good Paul
A quick update on my favorite part of the truck so far -dem dummy lakes; Looks like Big Jungle Jim is cooking with gas; Looks like the Kripple Kart is now officially a led sled. Way to go Jim. Later Paul
